Dressed head to toe in vegan leather, vegetarian metal star Doro Pesch takes a strong stance against cruelty to animals in a new ad campaign for PETA Germany, calling on fans to respect all living, feeling beings by not eating or wearing them. "We all feel pain, love, joy, and fear," Pesch says. "We have a special responsibility toward animals. That's why I don't eat meat and only wear faux leather." The former WARLOCK lead singer, who kicked off her new tour on November 16, attributes her strength and stamina to her healthy diet: "I'm always on stage for two hours in high gear, it's really exhausting, and I really feel that I'm healthier, more fit, have more energy, and have a much, much clearer conscience," she says in a new video for PETA Germany. "We are all living beings, good souls," she adds. "If you listen to your heart, then you know what is right, and then you also know how important it is that we, as humans, take care of animals." In addition to sparing many animals every year immense suffering on factory farms and on the decks of fishing boats, people who go vegetarian also have a lower risk of suffering from heart disease, cancer, and obesity—and a drastically reduced carbon footprint. PETA — whose motto reads, in part, that "animals are not ours to eat or wear" — also notes that cows killed for leather endure castration, tail-docking, and dehorning without painkillers as well as extreme confinement and that they're sometimes dismembered and skinned alive. Pesch is part of a long list of celebrities — including Rob Zombie, Justin Hawkins, Tim McIlrath, Nikki Sixx, Joan Jett, Dave Navarro and Tommy Lee — who've teamed up with PETA or its affiliates to promote kindness to animals.
