**UPDATE**: EAGLES OF DEATH METAL have posted a message on their Facebook page. It reads as follows: "We are still currently trying to determine the safety and whereabouts of all our band and crew. Our thoughts are with all of the people involved in this tragic situation."Dozens of people were feared dead and scores taken hostage in a series of violent terror attacks in Paris, France, with one of the reported targets the music venue where EAGLES OF DEATH METAL were playing. At least 100 hostages were taken hostage at Bataclan theater and a number of people killed in an attack that lasted between 10 and 15 minutes. According to multiple early reports, several hostages escaped from the 1,500-capacity venue, although dozens remained inside. An eyewitness told CNN that he saw at least 20 dead bodies at the theater.CNN affiliate BFMTV reports that SWAT units stormed the Bataclan concert hall and that the siege is over. Two attackers were killed, a police union said. There were reportedly several attackers in the Bataclan looking for concertgoers who were in hiding. They also said that there was a shootout in the street, with police "firing at a rooftop position near the venue." The New York Times reported that a witness told French television that someone shouted "Allahu Akbar," "God is greatest," as the shooting occurred. The mother of one of the EAGLES OF DEATH METAL members told the Washington Post her son and other band members escaped, although some crew remained trapped as hostages. The wife of drummer Julian Dorio confirmed to The Washington Post that he and other band members are okay."We are just holding our breath and saying prayers for everyone," Emily Dorio said. "[Julian] called to say that he loved me and he was safe. Everyone on stage was able to get off."The band had reportedly been on stage for about an hour when the attack occurred. At least 100 people are believed to have been killed in the attacks, with President Francois Hollande shutting France's borders and declaring a national state of emergency."This is a terrible test, another assault on France," Hollande said. "We must, in these difficult moments, prove our our compassion and unity. Faced with terrorism, France must above all be strong. Each of us has a personal responsibility. There is much to fear, but facing these fears is a nation that knows how to muster its forces and will confront the terrorists."EAGLES OF DEATH METAL is the California-based band founded in 1998 by QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE mainman Josh Homme and Jesse Hughes. The group was on the first stop of its 25-date tour of Europe to support its fourth studio album, "Zipper Down".Despite their name, EAGLES OF DEATH METAL are not considered a "death metal" band — but rather the moniker was cooked up after a member mused aloud that their sound would be what THE EAGLES sounded like if they attempted to play death metal.Homme spoke on the topic of terrorism to Rolling Stone in September, joking that EAGLES OF DEATH METAL's most recent album seemed to have helped combat violent mass attacks."We put out a record and human rights are better, the world feels better, people make more money, there's less anger, people are more respectful to women and to homosexuals, and they're generally nicer each other, they're kinder to each other, and that's why we really felt like it was time to let the healing begin," he said.Upcoming acts scheduled to play at the theater include the DEFTONES this coming Saturday and Sunday evenings.
