Dr Who

I've never watched a single episode either, but I was never really temped to do so. It seems kinda silly and cheesy and enjoyed by the same people who like stuff like harry potter and big bang theory. I guess I may be wrong but I think there are way better stuff to watch on television and since we're talking about british shows I would recommend "Sherlock" (simply amazing) and "Extras" (one of the funniest shows ever IMO).

Love everything british TV but absolutely hate Dr. Who. I seriously don't know how anyone likes it, it's so cheesy it's horrible but it's super famous over here so who knows... You might like it though

Dr Who is great because it's so cheesy and British.

You should start from series 1 (2005) and watch from there till where its at now.

Theres loads of good Dr who episodes from the 60's,70's and 80's too.

Same here, I don't understand why people would lose their time on Dr Who when there are so much cooler old sci fi series around. Dr Who is not funny, badly acted, annoyingly cheesy (and I normally find cheesiness cool in a way)... I guess some people can enjoy it but I simply don't get it.

I used to absolutely hate it. It's so silly, for lack of a better word.
I've learned to not hate it now, but I can't say I look forward to it, I'll leave it on if there's nothing else on.
It's popularity over here is mainly down to sentiment when it relaunched as far as I can see...

Kitsch defined.

this^^

the first episode of series 1 2005, explains the show best
and the ones from that point till now are IMO the best

although the earlier incarnations of the doctor had a handfull of watchable episodes

+1

The new (2005) series is really good and you don't need to watch the old series to understand the characters and their history.

It IS very British but the stories and concepts are brilliant. It really picks up from the 2nd season with the 10th regeneration of The Doctor.

I've been a big fan of this show for many, many years. The newer ones are great. I love the old Tom Baker ones. Even the 1965 movie with Peter Cushing.

(genuine question) Is there really an interesting plot in it ? I saw what I would consider half of a season because I was at home for some time and it was aired regularly, and to me the story was annoyingly slow and dumb just like any pseudo sci-fi series from our era (you know, like Heroes which makes you wait forever for any substantial advancement in the story)

I need to give Dr. Who another shot - I have watched it occasionally over the years, but never with any regularity. I've recently been on a bit of a sci-fi series kick watching all four seasons of Lexx on Netflix and all four seasons of Farscape (I have them on DVD). Lexx can be a bit cheesy at times, but I always liked it and Farscape has always been a favorite of mine.

Next up may be a Firefly marathon - I've probably watched my Firefly DVD set 15 times through in marathon sessions over the past several years - it remains my absolute favorite series.

I just don't see the point when there are things like Breaking Bad, Dexter, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, etc. going on right now that are so much better... or even older shows like Lost, The Wire, etc....

Never a Dr Who fan.
For British Sci-Fi I think early Red Dwarf or the original Hitch Hikers guide were great.

I completely forgot about Red Dwarf - Netflix has nine seasons worth, have to add that to my queue for future viewing. I've watched more Red Dwarf than Dr. Who, but still have missed a good portion of it's seasons.
