Drag n drop midi question

I'm using Cubase 4, drag n dropping midi files onto a track, If I open the piano roll should'nt I see the notes from the file on the grid?

Yes but if piano roll is only displaying a certain note range you might need to scroll up or down. Good ole Ableton has a fold feature that hides all the keys except the ones where there are actual MIDI notes.
