Dream Theater signs with Roadrunner

As much as a fanboy as I used to be, it makes me very sad that they have to sign to such a pooey label as Roadrunner.

It seems as though they're signing all of the good bands to make up for all of the bad ones. (This is obviously subject to opinion, but many, many people would consider Dream Theater a "good band".)

I'm still hoping that the new album doesn't fail in the way that their previous 4 albums did.

(Even though I still like their previous 4 albums a moderate amount.)

Previous four albums?

Ok, right, can ANYONE explain to me why I actually like 'Train Of Thought'?
because I actually do, and everyone else hates it. Why is this?

Do I need to seek professional help?

Lol, :drunk: x

I liked ToT a fair amount too. I even liked 6DOIT, and if you didn't like SFAM you're just a fucking fag. Octavarium was very bad though i thought.

I kind of like SFAM but I think the opposite is generally true of the bolded line. I like all of their albums up to Octavarium which was totally horrible. Awake is my favorite by far. ToT isn't bad but the first song reminds me of Godsmack and the last song makes me want to kill myself, most of the others are pretty good though and the part where they exactly rip off 'blackened' made me LOL

it wont make a bit of difference, portnoy has the leash to tight on that band to let RR take it over. They will continue being a good band (in my opnion).

Dream Theater are a pretty fucking sweet band. Technical craziness isn't for everyone, but if you like that kind of thing, mixed with some great songwriting, DT all the way.

I've liked all their records except WDADU (different vocalist was actually much worse than LaBrie) and FII. Octavarium was inconsistent, but The Root of All Evil and These Walls were great, Never Enough and Panic Attack were decent, and the title track was good except for a bad case of the way-too-longs. Six Degrees was nice, and Train of Thought has some of their best and heaviest songs, like This Dying Soul and In the Name of God.

personally I'm psyched for them, 'cause it means the possibility of one day seeing DT and Opeth on the same bill.

having said that, I haven't been absolutely in love with a DT album since Scenes from a Memory, although:
- the 1st disc of 6Degrees has three incredible songs (Glass Prison, Blind Faith and Great Debate)
- but the 2nd disc was overwrought goo
- Octavarium has some good Muse-worshipping tracks
- Train of Thought also had its moments, but it also had James attempting to rap

so bring on a new album, and in the meantime we have a new Symphony X to look fwd to!
