Iceland and Heavy Metal? Yes, actually there was some metallic life on this far away island in the North Sea. Vocalist Eirikur Haukkson, who released a rock album in 1981 and later on joined the Norwegian band ARTCH (under the pseudonym Eric Hawk), had a short appearance in Icelandic Rock history on DRYSILLs album Welcome to the show in 1985. To this day this record is definitely one of the most expensive and sought-after Metal-albums. Why?
DRYSILLs music is typical Scandinavian 80s Metal, which is upgraded by Erics powerful voice. Left right (The night of dreams) is a good example for the whole album, which reminds one a little of the later PRETTY MAIDS. Were coming to rock you is a very catchy song, like the title track. So Welcome to the show has a very good reputation and is still in demand. The only problem to get it was that only a few hundred copies were produced and today they are more or less impossible to find. Finally this great album is available via the Karthago Records Heavy Metal classics series, so the waiting has an end for many collectors.
