i've had a long 10 days or so. i want to watch a movie that isn't going to sap my will to live. something maybe funny, or interesting, but not totally spiral-like-depressive.
any suggestions?

there is a movie called Fitzcarraldo that i would recommend to you. it is on dvd but might be a little harder to find, as i think it was more recently released as part of the Werner Herzog/Klaus Kinski boxset, but i might be wrong. there are a few depressive themes but overall i find it to be awe-inspiring. i do think you would like it. not horror.

The Castle of Cagliostro is one of the most excellent non-depressive, non horror Japanese cartoons i've seen and it's on DVD and i think you would be highly amused by it.

nix, well if they have it at blockbuster! haha that's all i have around where i work. also, remember when i said the guy in sleepy hollow had scissor teeth? this is the best pics i could find but see what i mean? they're all pointy

yeah they might actually have the first in the GAH 'foreign' section and the other in the animation/special interest bullshitty.

NOW I REMEMBER the pointed teeths.

I own Fitzcarraldo on DVD, but I don't think I've seen it in stores for quite some time. I could be wrong, though. Doubtful that Blockbuster carries it.

it's a little bit of a downer, but Verticle Ray of the Sun is an absolute gorgeous Vietnamese DVD I saw recently.
And there's always all those swell Family Guy DVDs

Spirited Away. i think you may enjoy it.

i'd also recommend

My Sassy Girl

it's an extremely funny and sweet romantic comedy, but it's Korean so most likely you won't find it at your local blockbuster. :/

"Castle of..." is actually an earlier film of Miyazaki.

seriously, i think if you want a cheer-up film, any of his animated stuff works. Everything these dudes listed plus My Neighbor Totoro should be readily available @ blookbuster?
