Has anyone compared these monitors? I'm currently using a BlueSky MediaDesk 2.1 system. I find these overly bright, and to not translate well.

I want to get away from using a sub, but will the BM6A's deliver enough lows?

The BM12A's are a good $700 more than the 6A's, but is the cost justified?

The BM6As won't give you a lot of lows by themselves. In fact they will provide perceptibly less than the BM5As. I haven't been a big fan of the larger Dynaudio models, but I haven't heard the BM12As specifically. I find that as the woofer size gets larger, the more undefined the midrange. The BM6As with compatible sub would be a great full range solution. They were second to only the PMC TB2s in that price range when I tested them.

If you want to get away from mixing with a sub, your only 'true' solution are 3-way monitors.

Does average monitoring volume play into this? I typically find that I mix at <70db. When I calibrate my 2.1 setup to 85db, that is just blaring to me.
