Ed VH at Dimebag's Funeral - a class act!

Are you're sure we're talking about the same guy?!
What exactly has he done that so innovative?!
I can't think of anything?! You?!
I agree with you, yeah hes had some good solos with Ozzy, but he's no way as good as people say he is, way to over-rated.

I'll give him credit, that No More Tears record was a monster, but that was it.
He can't sing, he comes up with some great riffs in BLS, but they never materialize into anything, than just an opening riff or a chorus...
I'm sure if he read this he'd want to kick my ass, but so what?! I'm just being honest here. He's no more a "guitar legend" than Ace Frehley or C.C. Deville....:tickled:

At www.zakkwylde.com there is a picture of Zakk hugging Ed at the funeral.

And Zakk looks awesome! What are you on about?

I saw his pics.. like i said earlier he looks like crap nowadays compared to what he looked like when he first joined Ozzy at age 19 though i dont know if you were old enough back then or saw what he looked like when No Rest for the Wicked came out... i read a interview or 2 of Zakk's in Metal Maniacs over the summer and he looked worst in those pics then the ones on his site .. i couldnt find the pics of him and Eddie at the funeral though.. and as Sixx and others have said.. Zakk is a good guitarist but he isnt a great one... he is a legend in his own mind ... he seems to think if he plays a Randy Rhoads guitar that he is RR or as good as RR.. but anyways i liked his playing on No Rest for the Wicked like on Crazy Baby's etc... but he's nothing special.. basic penatonic scale shit , pinch harmonics (probably got from Jake since Jake loved to use those) , simple solos etc.. all stuff thats been done a million times.. no innovation like RR, Hendrix, VH , Malsteen etc..

Hes nothing compared to the true legends, IOMMI Rhodes Page Hendrix etc.

Unfaithfully Metalhead.. Zakk was skinny when he first joined Ozzy. He now has muscles and a bit of weight to him. That's what a healthy man should be.

As for his playing, why do you have to be innovative to be tallented? He's fuckin' good at what he does. He's written some great riffs and his solos are always perfect for the song and that's what being a great guitarist is all about. Innovative or creative stuff just wouldn't work with Black Label Society. And he has done his fair share of originality with Ozzy anyways.

It doesn't matter anyway. I said he will be remembered as one of the greatest guitarists of this generation and he will be because many people worship him. Just because you disagree doesn't change that.

Now can we please stop bagging the poor man out already?

P.S. I'm sorry if this post sounds kind of aggressive.. It's not supposed to be.. I'm just giving my oppinion. And I also respect yours. No offense meant to you Sixx, Anton or Unfaithfully Metalhead

On EVH, that was a great thing of him to do knowing that Dime was a huge fan. And the KISS casket thing is awesome. Paul Stanley was also at the funeral.

On Zakk, I think he is way overrated. I love what he did on his first 2 Ozzy albums he played on but after that I think he is stale and boring. As far as how he looks? I think he looks crap now. He looked unreal on No Rest For The Wicked but now he looks shit.

Whoah! I'll take up for Zakk on this one....I'll agree that he may not be the most innovative player out there, nor did he change the face of metal...HOWEVER, he is a great guitarist. He has his own signature sound...you hear his playing and you know it's him, and he does have his own "thing" with all the squeals he does all the time. Not that nobody else has done that squeal thing, but he kind of made it his trademark the way Slash did with the Top Hat and Les Paul. You see anybody bust a tophat and you'll say they're rippin' off Slash. You hear the guys in SHADOWS FALL pullin' off squeals and I say they're paying homage to ZAKK WYLDE! The guy is great at what he does....he has some solos that kick ASS, even on the weaker Ozzy/BLS songs...he ain't no singer...but he has balls. Here are a few others who haven't really INNOVATED, but who I think have their own niche that makes them legends:
MICK MARS
KIRK HAMMETT
GEORGE LYNCH
ACE FREHLEY
TED NUGENT

And I'll say this one, too: DIMEBAG DARRELL. I mean him NO DISRESPECT! Please don't understand me. I think he is one of the greatest metal guitarists ever!!! BUT I don't think he really did anything that had never been done before....they guy shredded, and his tone was KILLER, and he could write riffs that would make your balls fall off!!! BUT what did he do that was unheard of before???

That's my point... a great guitarist only has to have his own sound and style to make his technique stand out.

Just my take...

The "pinch thing" i heard Jake E Lee do it way before Zakk ... to me it was more a Jake trademark.. Zakk is a good player but not "great" ... he does the job put it that way... as for the list of other guitarists.. i agree on George Lynch and maybe Kirk Hammett pre And Justice for All days but the rest wouldnt be on my list.. as for the Dimebag comments that pretty much sums up Zakk to me.. :hypno:

Let's get one thing "straight" here, we were commenting on Zakk as a player.
I could careless if he looks like C.C. Deville or G.G. Allen!!!!!

:tickled: I'm getting images of GG throwing his feces into the audience and CC getting hit by it to improve his complexion lol ...

I think Zakks a great player .... cant stand to listen to him to much but he is one of the greats of the modern generation .... as for looks well atleast he looks like a man and not a lil girl lol
Hehehe. Well said JonnyD. Although I can listen to him for ages, but that's just personal taste I guess :)

Thank you Ted :) That's what I was trying to say, but it wasn't coming out properly. lol.

That's what Ted said. Zakk isn't too original but he kicks ass at what he does.
Plus he uses the "pinch thing" a little differently to Jake. But I see where you're coming from.

tedvanfreshley said:
cool...again, no disrespect to DIME!!!! I am in no way bagging on him...I'm just saying he was a great guitarist and a great personality...but he didn't reinvent the instrument.
It's cool Ted, we all know what you mean :)

I would also like to add that Zakk doesn't always use pentatonics. He uses blues and modal stuff in different places.

Pentatonics and blues scales are almost the same with the exception of one note.. usually.. Modal stuff he dont use much... anyways i like his playing i just dont think he is great... other then that.. i still havent seen the pic of Eddie at the funeral.. does anyone have a direct link to the pic or can post it on the thread?...
