I have been asked on the Gas Purchases thread to compare the Elixir cable to a "regular" cable.
So here we have the Elixir and Fender performance series cable.
ESP custom Eclipse with Duncan 59 to Boss TU-2 (for impedance buffer[see my other thread about this]) to BSS AR133 DI box.

Only thing changed is the cable.
The Elixir cables are now discontinued for some reason so if you want one you will need to be quick. I can hear a dramatic difference in high frequency roll off.
I have always been sceptical of expensive cables but the Elixir has absolutely changed my mind re this.
Maybe into an amp it won't make as big a difference as apparent on these DI tracks but any extra attack and sparkle makes a difference IMO.

So number 2 is the elixir? I much prefer this, the other sounds like its got way too much low end roll off at the cost of being more "sparkly" hahah

...i only expected a very subtle difference but this is more than noticeable. You don't know where to get this cable in germany? I can't find any shop selling them here...but seems that i will try out some other brands then.

I could imagine that with an active pup the difference could be smaller but who knows..

Thanks for the clips ;) they changed my mind on that topic...

The second one is the Fender....it says it in the file names.

And - big difference!

On the topic of high end rolloff, does anyone record DI's through a wireless unit to just totally defeat the signal loss from cables? Or is the latency too high for such a thing?

From experience i know that cheap wireless systems have noticeable hi-end roll off even compared to cheap cables. But i don't know how good expensive wireless systems are...but i would guess that wireless color more than cables.

Wow! I always thought that the "high end cables" were just a huge scam.

Well, I've bee searching prices and the elixir cables are just too expensive, but can you recommend other brands that have a similar preservation of high frequencies? I'm just looking for a short cable to record DIs.

Did you play exactly at the same position both times? As you know playing closer to the bridge gives treblier sound with less bass.

I have the Elixirs for like 5 years and now one of the plugs started having contact noises. As the plug seems to be molded plastic I don't know how it can be taken apart to service. Any experience with these?
