Emg 85 18 volt mod?

Yeah I did it on my guitar with a pair of 85s and it sounds so much more alive. Before the tone was kind of sterile, but now with the added headroom, it seems a lot more dynamic while still having that aggression we all know and love.

With our search function being shit when it comes to our popular terms (EMG, Pod, any other three letter word/ achronym) I might add to this thread and ask for any links RE carrying out this 18 volt mod.

I had Brent build my guitar with an 85 and in 18v configuration. It's just a slight change, nothing drastic, just like changing string type.

Fuck I still need to do this mod... my friend has a Washburn WG587 something-or-other 7-string with a 707 in it (which I advised against) and his guitar was always wayyyyy too gainy, I noticed his pickup was really close to the strings. I made him lower it, which helped but it was still super gainy through settings on an amp that were fine for my EC1k with an 81. He did the mod and came back and it really did make a big difference in the headroom. Now I can actually tolerate hearing him jam in the corner, haha. Now if there was a way to make the 707 not suck he'd be in business...
