Enter Chaos Dreamworker
Metal Mind Productions MMP 0157 27th August 2002
By Russell Garwood
Enter Chaos are an all-Polish death metal supergroup, signed to Polands Metal Mind Productions. The band comprises screamer Lady Martex, guitarists Verymetal (Dar Semai), Blasphemo (Luna Ad Noctum), Ozz (Demise) and D (Azarath), the latter three also handling bass duties for an absent B. Low (Demise). L.Rambo (Demise and Damnation) is responsible for drums, and Raiden (aural Planet) for effects. Guest musicians on this release feature Seb-Off (Dar Semai) on guitar and bass, who has helped write several of the tracks, and Noctivagus of Luna Ad Noctum on keys. Other principle songwriters in the band stand as Ozz, Verymetal, D and Blasphemo, making for a very guitar orientated sound, and more run-of-the-mill death metal than the line-up (or press release) would lead you to believe. The psychedelic edge, effects and keyboards are rarely mixed with the metal, generally providing respite between the melodic-yet-heavy songs, but ultimately defeating their purpose. Nevertheless, the music itself successfully merges melodic death with more traditional elements, and is well performed by competent musicians.
Standout tracks include "Industrial Disease" for the integration of electronics, helping to create a cold yet more relaxed passage between bludgeoning drums and cathartic, heavy guitars, and the harsher "Synthetic Future". Overall this is a solid release that many death metal fans will love it is uncompromising, yet has a nice balance between both melody and brutality and technicality and accessibility. Those after something truly groundbreaking and original may be slightly disappointed, however.
