Anyone have any experience with these guitars? I'm looking for something LP shaped and was wondering what the quality control on these was like.

IMO it was one of the the worst playing guitars I've ever owned, with another Les Paul being right next to it. I guess I'm just not a fan of the 24.75 scales. A lot of people like them though, so if you like the way Les Pauls play they are very similar except the LTD has bigger frets.

the old korean ones were superb, not yet sure about the never indonesian stuff.
i hat a indonesian goldtop here and due to build quality it wasn't any close to the korean model my father owns.

cheers

They're very cool guitars for the money. The 1000 series is still Korean, so no worries there. I've had a bunch of LTD's and ESP's over the years, and from working in music stores for about a decade now I've played just about every model that came through. The quality control is really pretty good. You'll get the occasional dud, but as a whole they're great guitars. I've even had LTD's that I liked more than my ESP's. A solid Korean LTD with a little love from a tech (fret level and setup) is pretty hard to beat for the money. Just keep in mind that ESP's have very different necks than Gibsons, and unless you get a full thickness model, the bodies are considerably thinner. If you love Les Pauls...you may not dig an Eclipse. But, if you love the look of a LP but want a trimmer version...they may be just the thing. For what its worth, I've had a dozen Gibsons, a couple of PRS Singlecuts, a Caparison, Jacksons etc etc and to this day I still kick myself for selling my old goldtop LTD EC400AT. It was just an all around awesome sounding and playing guitar.

Thank you for the responses.

Basically I'm looking for either a LP or SG shape, as I've always found those shapes easier to play.

My main deciding factor though is quality control. I really can't afford to spend for than $450-$500 atm, so I'm mostly looking for used stuff. I saw a nice EC-1000 on eBay for $400 and was thinking of snagging it.

Also saw what looked to be a nice BC Rich Mockingbird Special,

The 1000 series is still Korean, AFAIK. Indo hasn't reached the LTD Deluxe series yet, luckily, like Tercero said.

Unless you're thinking about the EC-1000T, the regular 24-fret EC-1000 has a thinner body which, tonally, resembles an SG more than a Les Paul.

Asides from that, yeah, the neck is not very Les Paul-y. It's narrower and thinner with HUGE frets.

Good guitars with good quality control indeed.
