Favela of My Dismay
Stuff reminiscent to Tarujen Saari, Orphaned Land, and the beginning of Subterranean Masquerades song "Kind of a blur". Doesn't have to necessarily be metal. Any good relaxing qanun shredding will do. Oh but please refrain from suggesting anything that would persuade me in joining the nation of Islam. :D thnx.

Well, nation of Islam music would be stuff like Public Enemy. :loco:

OK here's 3 for you:

Have you heard RUDRA yet? Start with their latest, "Brahmavidya: Primordial I". It's Vedic Metal -- meaning death metal with Indian fusion. Lots of stuff going on (top 10 of '05 for me).

There is also a band called RAJNA. Look them up. They were on the same label as Orphaned Land (Holy Records?) and they're a bit more chilled out. Like Dead can Dance or something. They actually record their shit in a Tibetan mountain temple, hehe.

Then of course you've got MELECHESH. Start with "Sphynx". It's Mesoptomaniananan whatever metal. And no that doesn't mean they sound like Morbid Angel (necessarily). Proscriptor drums for them.

Does that help?

Do you download or buy? (God I hate asking that question). Anyway, if you do ever get interested enough in Rajna to buy, Doomcifer is selling one of their CDs. Just an FYI.

Am I named after a concentration camp? Ofcourse I buy kind sir! Anyhow I cant find any samples of these bastids.

Doomcifer donde estas?

Omar Faruk Tekbilek and his "Mystical Garden", "Crescent Moon" and "Whirling" albums. Purely middle east music, not rock or metal, this is the real thing. Rich variety of sounds, instruments and songs, from belly dancing hymns to eerie atmospheric elegies.

Try some Indian classical music. Ragas and whatnot. India Archive Music seems to be a pretty good label for that sort of stuff, but I don't know much about it (the music).

new album 2021. i'm about to listen myself. no idea yet if it's any good so proceed at yr own risk.

EDIT: blegh, only samples on bandcamp. full album on spotify.

EDIT 2: it seems pretty interesting. enjoying the Qanon, errr i mean Qanun playing. elevator pitch: imagine if modern amorphis was from tunisia instead of finland. and also a lady on vocals

Gracias

I like middle eastern songs as they are and I like metal but the combination of both just doesn't work for me.
I'd listen to the singer's voice with pleasure if it was pure folklore.
Otherwise it's just middle eastern Epica or Nightwish. I prefer Septic Flesh, lol.
But sure it does sound exotic.

PS: imo.
