Exitium - Outsourcing Morality
Deepsend Records - DSR022 - 2006
By Brandon Strader
Get ready to Enterium into the realm of Exitium! These fellows waste no time, immediately streaming a flurry of blastbeats, overly distorted guitars, and cookie monster vocals that will make you want to shave a cat and go fishing for sharks with it in the ocean. The real surprise behind Exitium is that they are distributed by Century Media, and CM has pretty much deserted the art of true metal bands and replaced them with the up-and-coming cruddy emo and the hundreds and hundreds of hardcore bands. The fact that CM carries Hawthorne Heights is enough proof, but I digress.
The songs are fairly short excursions of grind, yet not as short as the norm. The average length is around 2:30, and adds up to a total length of 26 minutes. Yes yes, another EP posing as an album from Deepsend... Unlike label mates Lecherous Nocturne, Exitium don't have that special hook that pulls you in. The songwriting is pretty generic despite the more kvlt production. They toss around blastbeats just like a ton of other bands do, yet the riffs they use are about as standard as they come (especially for grind). In the end, it just sounds like average, uninspired riffs smothered with blastbeats and a normal growl. It's not very engaging and is more like some kind of twisted grind background music.
There are some cool moments, like the growl and scream duet on "Prorated Peace Of Mind" and the high-pitched inhaled squeals. Other than the occasional awesome layer of screams, there really isn't much to look forward to with Outsourcing Morality. Even the lyrical content of political grind is so mundane and overdone, not that you can really tell what the guy is saying with the incoherent growl vokills. In conclusion, it's average at best so check it out if you really like this style. Otherwise, you just might want to stick with some real good grind!
