I believe Chris's post summed things up quite nicely:

(copy/paste)
Umm.... care to explain what's happening now?
Not that it directly affects me, but why did ebay user "ieatbacon", apparantly the same as PP forum user progboy216:

1. post an auction for 3 tickets

2. explain here that he needed 4 total and had 3 to sell

3. bid on the 4 tickets, vigorously, helping to drive up the price

4. retract all bids on the 4 tickets

5. sell his 3 tickets

6. now post an auction with 2 more tickets.

7. Why did ieatbacon suddenly begin bidding on the item he withdrew his bids from at 2 AM this morning?

8. Why did ieatbacon cancel his auction for 3 tickets but is now selling 2 instead?

1. post an auction for 3 tickets
I needed 4 and had 3.

2. explain here that he needed 4 total and had 3 to sell

I did need 4 total. I did have 3 to sell.

3. bid on the 4 tickets, vigorously, helping to drive up the price

I needed 4 tickets.

4. retract all bids on the 4 tickets

It is strategy I guess. I only meant to retract my last bid, but it retracted them all. Some dude outbid me so I went and bid alot right away and the price was cruising. I then figured if the dude had just outbid me, he would keep bidding and drive up the price past my limit of $1,000. So I was planning on bidding later at night, and that is what I did do.

5. sell his 3 tickets

Someone bid $500 and said that they only wanted 1 ticket. So I closed the auction at the bid. The person gets their 1 ticket, I now have 2 more to sell.

6. now post an auction with 2 more tickets.

I posted my reason above.

Look guys, I dont mean to piss anyone off here. It puzzles me why you are all so concerned with this stuff if you already have tickets... I guess it looked kind of suspicious. I am an honest person with integrity and have no plans on cheating anyone.

I'm concerned because I *don't* have tickets. But sorry for insulting your integrity and all that. Your explanation seems innocent enough, but I don't believe withdrawing bids is sound strategy. What you probably should have done instead of making 25 bids was just make a few near auction's end, because it's the bids at auction's end that it all comes down to anyway, and that way you might have saved some money.

anyway, my apologies

No worries. Looking back on it, yes that is what I should of done... but I am an unpaitient bastard.

To be honest, I was simply curious as hell. You have to admit it was a bit wild to follow all of the bid/retract/post new auctions.

Kudos to you.

Hey, if other people are ok with it, so am I. I would just make the suggestion that since lots of people have been E-screwed, it might not be a bad idea to explain up front whenever things go outside the norm of a single auction.

To me, it looks like a lot of work to pick up one ticket, but it's pretty much a free market.

Good luck to those still looking for tickets....
