Every once in a while there is an album that comes out that nobody had really been looking forward to, or probably even knew about, yet it ends up being one of the most memorable, or at least the funnest thing you've heard in a while... That seems to be the case with Fall of Serenity and their latest album, Bloodred Salvation.

This is a german death metal band, yet they have the catchiness of hardcore mixed with the brutality of death metal... Quite a good mixture, indeed! The spectacularness of the music is nearly beyond words! The guitar work is technical yet melodic, although these guys aren't afraid to break into a relentless thrash-session! The guitar work is flawless and with a great tone. It all sounds extremely massive, as even the triggered bass has more punch than we've come to expect from this kind of music.

Speaking of the percussion, it is very exciting and well thought-out. It provides that extra little 'nudge' to the songwriting, which is very good! Like I said, the songwriting contains a perfect mix of brutality and melody, and is accompanied by some fantastic death vocals! Sorry, no clean vocals here. The growls are extremely thick and sound great, and match the music very well. There is also an impressive range on these growls, from very low, to middle, to high screams, which adds a bit of vocal dynamic to the sound.

It saddens me listening to this when I realize, this is what In Flames should have sounded like today if they had stayed true instead of aiming more to the mainstream.... The same can be said about a myriad of bands, however... Fall of Serenity really delivers with Bloodred Salvation and takes death metal to the next level. They even have some amazing instrumental sections where they use an almost orchestral sounding piano and string arrangement... It's so well-done it almost makes me want to cry! Bloodred Salvation is something you have to hear NOW! It's that good.

8.5/10

Yes, I agree, very good! I disagree with the In Flames similarity though... good review.

That's the thing, In Flames doesn't sound like this at all, not nearly as good. Had they stuck to their roots and evolved accordingly, it could have been possible.....

Their music reminds me of a cross between Dark Tranquility and As I Lay Dying. If you were to combine those two bands and add a touch of heavy metal you'd probably come out with a band that sounds something like this. Good music.
