It was reported back in March that Kimberly Burch – fiancée of Faster Pussycat frontman Taime Downe – died after going overboard on an ’80s-themed Royal Caribbean cruise. A security video from the ship showed Kimberly Burch jumping off the ’80s Cruise. The Royal Caribbean’s Explorer Of The Seas is registered in the Bahamas, giving jurisdiction to the Nassau police, who came aboard to review the case and subsequently cleared Taime Downe of any wrongdoing.
Taime Downe recently spoke with Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation. During the conversation, he reflects on the passing of his fiancée and opens up about it for the first time.
SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation, hosted by Eddie Trunk, airs daily at 3 PM, ET on SiriusXM’s Faction Talk. Audio clip and transcript below courtesy of SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation.
Taime Downe reflects on the passing of his fiancée:
Taime Downe: “No, it’s good to talk about. It’s good to talk about it with my friends, my close, close knit friends. I don’t really wanna talk about it to strangers ’cause it just doesn’t seem appropriate.”
Eddie Trunk: “Right. Right.”
Taime Downe: “But with you and stuff, you know what I mean? It’s just, it is what it is. I’m just, you know.”
Eddie Trunk: “Well, the last thing on it, and again, I’m not gonna pry and put you on the spot and ask you things you don’t want to talk about. And I totally understand and respect the hell outta you, you know that. But the one thing that people are really, the people, thing that people were really concerned about, and it’s obviously tragic what happened and you feel for everybody, but the one thing that people were very concerned about was you obviously, and you know, you’ve proudly been sober for a long time, and we’ve talked about that and people were like, ‘Man, we hope, you know, this doesn’t send Taime back into a spiral.’ So, have you addressed that? Have you dealt with that?”
Taime Downe: “Yeah. Yeah. Well, yeah. What happened with Kimberly too was alcohol and prescription related. So you know, I blame alcohol and pills on it. There’s no way I touch booze, you know. That’s just for me, that’s just completely disgusting in my brain, you know what I mean? So I’m just like, I got some hatred for booze and, you know, because I know I love the hell outta Kimberly, and this is, it was just hard to deal with, you know what I mean? We spent, you know, basically nine years together.”
Eddie Trunk: “Well, that’s a great way to look at it then. You kind of blame drugs and alcohol for what happened with her. So for you, it almost sounds like it reinforced your sobriety to some degree.”
Taime Downe: “Exactly. Exactly. I don’t want to get into what her psyche was at the time, but there’s a lot of things that make up people’s lives at a certain time of their life. And, you know, it’s been hard on everybody, you know?”
Eddie Trunk: “Well, listen, man, I’m glad that you are strong and I’m glad that you’re going out there and playing. I know the fans are as well, and I think, you know, like you said, those guys in that band and Faster Pussycat is your baby and that’s your family. And you’re surrounded by good people and good support. And I know you’ve had a lot of support, everyone reaching out to you since this all happened. And that had to feel real good in the wake of this horrible situation. So getting back on the horse is probably the best thing you can do. And I hope it really goes well for you.”
Taime Downe: “Yeah, me too. I just send my love to Kimberly’s family back home in Alabama too. I just feel so, you know, I feel so horrible for them and it’s just heartbreaking, you know?”
Eddie Trunk: “What about the love you felt from the Faster fans? I mean, you had, I mean, the fans reached out to you and of course privately your friends and I did, and everybody. But in terms of what went on with, you know, we missed you of course, on Monsters of Rock. Obviously you didn’t play it for obvious reasons, but I don’t know if you know this. I went out on stage when you were supposed to play, and we did a toast, and we did a remembrance to Kimberly and we did a shout out to you on that ship, the ship you were supposed to go on next. But the support had to be pretty, pretty cool for you to feel. I hope you felt it.”
Taime Downe: “Yeah, I did. I did. I did. I felt a lot, it was very overwhelming.”
