Favorite InsideOut bands?

My four favorite bands all happen to be Inside Out artists:

Pain of Salvation
Evergrey
Symphony X
Enchant

Some of my other favorites are:

OSI
Threshold
Dead Soul Tribe

I tend to like mostly the prog-metal side of their roster... I don't care for the Flower Kings/Spock's Beard/Yes/King's X side-projects and solo albums they release all the time.

Devin Townsend Band, Symphony X and Pain of salvation are alright too. I'd say DTB is my absolute favourite followed closely by Symphony X.

NOT Symphony X or the Flower Kings
Just curious, if you like Evergrey and Threshold (maybe) then why don't you like SymphonyX? They're not exactly the same, but very similar in terms of style. Just wondering, that's all.

Sym X just can't write a compelling ORIGINAL song if they had guns at their heads. Every time I've heard them, I'm always reminded that somebody else did it first, and did it better.

Evergrey IS singular. They have many compelling ORIGINAL sounding songs, even the stuff I really find not to my taste on Recreation Day.

Threshold is up to the minute AOR rock, like Journey, or The Scorpions. Each song I've heard from them, if not always original, sounds like the band is having FUN.

Sym X just sounds like they're trying to earn wage by the minute with each note.

Well, that's your opinion and of course you're entitled to it. However, I can't remotely see what it is that you're seeing regarding their music. I think they have a vast number of very original songs and they absolutely have fun with their music. I highly doubt that they would go to the trouble of writing the music they do if they were just trying to earn a wage. If that was the case, they'd be doing simplistic pop metal like Linkin Park and Puddle of Mudd. And if you can't sense the fun they're having in the solo section of "In he Dragon's Den" then you're not in touch with their music at all. Well, I guess that's the case anyway, because if you were then you would like them. And ProgMetalFan is right, if you've ever seen them live you can absolutely see they enjoy what they do.

Anyway, I'm not trying to bash you here, I just don't agree with or understand your position. But, that's what makes the world a diverse place.

Later!

Pain of Salvation
Transatlantic
Symphony X
Neal Morse
The Flower Kings
Star One
Enchant
Steve Hackett

Absolutely NOT O.S.I. (Though I love Dream Theater)

I wish they signed Andromeda, Ayreon and Pagan's Mind. That way all my fav prog bands would be under the same umbrella. Except DT of course...

I'll have to say it's between Evergrey, Threshold and Pain of Salvation. Of course, I'm a fan of the rest including Symphony X, The Flower Kings, Dead Soul Tibe, Spock's Beard, etc...
