Favorite Track On TFOD?

I absolutely love all the songs. My favourites change pretty oftern. The ones I usually repeat while playing the CD are "Leave me forever", "F.E.A.R.", "The Afterlife" and "The Evil Has Landed". I'm very happy about the diversity of this album. Everyone can find something he likes, Testament tries different styles and all sound brilliant; there are some references to various older records, but there's a lot of stuff they (and nobody else) never did. I really appreciate them for not eating their own tail and trying something new on each album.

TFOD, TPWF, HR or F.E.A.R., but the whole album rocks - LMF takes a little getting used to, especially if you (like me) were expecting something like Fall of Sipledome II as a closer, but it's growing on me. :headbang:

The Formation of Damnation or F.E.A.R. I also really like More than Meets the Eye and Evil Has Landed. ...anything but Henchmen Ride! Seriously, I see a lot of love for that song... But, I'd nominate it for the wosrt Testament song ever. I'd also nominate it for the cheesiest lyrics in a song this year! If it wasn't for the atrocious lyrics, Henchmen has some of the best riffs on the album.

A lot of people seem to favor the title track which is very powerful, crazy, tight as hell, full of monster-riffs and great, but I personally can't imagine rating a song where Chuck "growls" higher than a song on which he uses clean vocals. He has a brilliant voice and the growling parts are such a waste of his throat (even though they're the best growls in the business). I love Demonic for what it is, but I gladly welcomed the comeback of clean singing on the new album and I'm very happy there's only one song where he sings like that (that's the way it could be from now on for me- one song or even just some growled parts in some songs per record).

Speaking of his vocals, I still can't believe how brilliant they are on this album, how he switches between different voices and sings every song in a different way, with a different type of voice. The vocal melodies are brilliant as well. It's really amazing that after all these years Chuck is not only as good as he was, but even better, more comfortable with his voice and with a wider range! I miss the high-pitched shrieks from "The Legacy", but apart from that you've got everything from the past albums here plus a lot more. Some parts are sung higher, some lower, some with perfectly clean vocals and some with dirtier ones. You have melancholic, melodic singing and more aggressive one with a rougher edge to it. And these aren't just 2 or 3 types/styles of singing, but plenty of them; Chuck Billy seems to have an never-ending arsenal of colours in his throat. Moreover, they don't sound incoherent, chaotic or too eclectic- they fit and blend together perfectly and compose a very cohesive, well thought-out entirety- a logical, yet very diverse and full of various moods, entity. That's because Chuck not only has the talent, but knows how to use it in the compositions. To say more, every type or manner of singing that Chuck represents on this album is alone a master performance compared to the best vocalists who use these manners/types of singing (well, obviously there are parts nobody sings like too:)).

Honestly, I bow to Chuck Billy for this performance should make every singer or singer-wannabe out there think of looking for their talent in some different type of activity than playing music :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

Actually, I could say similar things about the other guys in the band as well, 'cause they're the best at what they do (although the difference or rather the abyss between Chuck and his "competition" is the most evident and shocking) . And as a band these individuals create an incredible mixture of gifts and different musical backgrounds- not a cacophony of talents, but a real symphony of their individual skills and ideas. It's amazing how these five guys fit together. Like Alex said, they're really able to show their potential now.
I'm beggining to fear how amazingly magnificent will the next record be- after they'll have played more time together and understood each other even more, for it really exceeds my imagination. Luckily, it doesn't exceed Eric's and I'm sure he'll conduct his crew and form an even better gem for the metal world. But for now, let us savor what was given to us :hotjump:

I also hope real recognition comes for Testament, because they deserve all the praise in the world for this record.

I hope they get some recognition as well, but not for this album. Honestly, I like it; but, it's nowhere near their best record. Actually, I'd say it's their worst. If Chuck would have used more growling and death metal vocals, I'd probably like this album a lot more. But to me, a lot of the riffs seem as if they were designed for pure speed and thrash, not for rememberance. I hate to use a word like rememberance, 'cause that makes it seem as if I'm looking for comercialization... But, Formation of Damnation is just not a catchy or rememberable album in my opinion. Although I'm very excited to own a new Testament record, I just hope their next one is a little bit more solid!
