Since nothing new seems to be happening around the musician's corner I figured I'd take the idea of Bryant's thread and make it Fast. MrFast... :D

Basically it's just some type of brainstorm of really good musicians, as long as it's because of their skill with an instrument that isn't a guitar. It can even be vocals.

I'll start it off with Richard Andersson.
He's a freakin machine. He's fast as hell without being obnoxious and irritating, he writes really good music and he's been in like 5 gajillion bands and done even more side projects. Your turn.

vocals - Sir Allen, Urban Breed, Udo, (younger) Geoff tate, Andy Kuntz, Ronnie James!!..... the list goes on and on.

drums - Kirk Arrington, Stian Kristoffersen, Dave !! (Lombardo) Peart, Phil Rudd (simplistic but the timing of a swiss watch)

keys - There is only ONE Gunther Werno

bass - Petra Hasselkuss, Francis Bucholz (one of the best kept secrets in metal) Chris Squire, Geddy... the list goes on and on....

I actually don't like Rush and Dio...in fact I dislike Dio so much I left a concert right before they went on, I only stayed for Yngwie :worship: ...

I'm a pritty big slayer fan, I just never pay attention to drummers...but Dave does kick ass...

if I had to vote for favorite drummer though, it would have to be either Danny Carey or Virgil Donati

wow, aside from Allen and Dio, I dont know one name on that list....

then I looked at your DOB and I think I know why....

Ha ha ha... trust me that I am not stuck in the past. Some of the others are modern musicians as well. Urban Breed (vocalist,) for example is with a band called Bloodbound, but fronted Tad Morose until about six months ago. Their last offering was "Modus Vivendi" from 2003. It is powermetal with an emphasis on power. I recomend them to people even who don't like powermetal. Awesome band. Dual guitar.... killer vocals and great drummer.

Well if I ever see you, I am going to bend you over my knee and give you a spanking young man !! Of course I am just picking at you on the age thing, but not liking Ronnie Dio is a cardinal sin in the metal world. I think I saw the same concert as you. Was it Dio, Yngwie and Doro ? Anyway, you should really try to open your ears to early era Dio like "Holy Diver" and "The Last in Line." It is great stuff.

Yeah, it was the Yngwie WtEAW tour. I just cant stand Dio and Rush due to the singers, like nails across a chalkboard to me, infact, (true story) all growing up I thought that the lead singer to Rush was a chick..

The only stuff I listen to from the 70's and before is ELP, Floyd and Queen, oh and of course Hendrix...I dont even listen to stuff like Zeppelin (go on, flame me), Clapton, Yes, etc.. well most of the classic 70's rock really, Its not that I don't respect it, its just that I have some serious ADD and I find it boring after listening to stuff like SymX..

Oooops forgot to mention in my last reply..... Dave Lombardo DOES indeed kick ass !! Being a Symphony X forum, there will be lots of prog fans here and great drummers to boot in prog metal bands, but thrash bands from the late 80's through early 90's really put some pressure on the drumming world. They should never be overlooked even with todays standards.

I never really got into Dio but I'm a HUGE Rush fan. And Geddy definitely isn't a chick, even though Alex Lifeson is
Seriously, check out the booklet from the album 2112 and tell me Lifeson doesn't look like a chick in it.

Best nongutiarist? On drums I'd have to say either Dave Weckl or Vinnie Colaiuta...I got this Dave Weckl live album and it hurts my head trying to comprehend anything he does.
