Favourite classical piece of music?

honestly, i cant stand Beethoven Mozart, but Bach just passes. His fugue's are great.

My favorites at the moment are Stravinsky, especially Rite of Spring ( which I am currently trying to apply to my music;the offbeat accents, percussive Dissonance etc) Penderecki, Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev

Wow... considering that Beethoven and Mozart are the greatest composers... wow. Have you listened to Beethoven's string quartets? Especially the later ones? Or the Hammerklavier sonata? That might help change your mind. Stravinsky himself disliked Beethoven for a long time, then later in life he realized how awesome Beethoven was. So don't feel bad... even genius' make mistakes at times. :)

Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Still epic after all these years.

And Dvorak's New World Symphony; that's my favorite Romantic-era piece of music.

Chopin's nocturnes
Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No 2
Henryk Gorecki: Symphony No 3
Bartok: The Miraculous Mandarin
Michael Nyman: The Piano Concerto
Sibelius: The Swan of Tuonela
Stravinsky: The Firebird

I haven't been expanding my classical collection for a long time. Need to get onto that.

Widor, Tchaikovsky, Bach, Wagner, Vierne, etc. There's a lot of shit I like that I can't think of right now.

Erik Satie - Pieces froides, Trois danses de travers
Erik Satie - Gnossienne No.4
Camille Saint-Saens - The Cuckoo in the Heart of the Woods
Phillip Glass - Massman
Thomas Newman - Cathedral
Sylvain Chauveau - L'Oree du Bois
Chaz Knapp - Célébration à une Nouvelle Vie

Can't be arsed to list post-classical favs.

As far as Beethoven symphonies go, I prefer his seventh.

My favorite *movement* is probably Romance from Chopin's Piano Concerto no. 1. That is, when it's played well.

We've done this thread alot of times but i will say it again:

Ave Maria by Schubert
Canon in D Major by Pachelbel
Etude in E Major by Chopin
Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Rachmaninoff
