Well, yeah, as it says.
Mine are Red Hot Chili Peppers (which is my total fave group), early mr. bungle and early Faith No More.

If you like RHCP, have you heard The Mars Volta?

Not that they really sound similar, but the album De-Loused in the Comatorium features Flea on bass (only for this album) and a solo by John Frusciante on the 12 minute song Cicatriz ESP. It's mostly prog rock, but there are influences from jazz, emo, dub, and that ilk. Kind of like Yes, early Santana, King Crimson...

Apparently this is a rather taboo genre title at the moment. Hell, I love it when funk meats metal. I love it when Funkadellic plays thick, nasty riffs and I love it when Sabbath plays loose, funky grooves.

Infectious Grooves get my top slot. Mr Bungle's cool too, though.

Damn. I haven't misspelled Funkadelic in a while. I always used to spell it with 2 ls, though.

Fishbone's a good call. I didn't realise how much ass they kicked until I saw them on an SNL rerun. Now I wish I had seen them live.

Clutch is really good too, in my book.

If normal funk is allowed, then clearly the whole P-Funk mob; Parliament, Funkadelic, Bootsy's Rubber Band, George Clinton, P-Funk All-Stars, Zapp, Brides of Funkenstein, etc. Parliament's "Mothership connection" is my favorite record of all time!!
Also James Brown's 70's stuff. The best record I have by him is "Reality". Great record!
Kool & the Gang (up til and including '76. Their first disco record, "Open Sesame", from '76 has two good songs, the rest is crap!)
Graham Central Station
Isley Brothers (although their 70's stuff is more a mix between funk and soul)
B.T. Express
Mandrill
Isaac Hayes
Commodores
I could go on...

I really haven't listened to much mix of funk and metal/rock. I wouldn't exactly call Faith No More a mix of it, but maybe that's just me. I think Living Colour mixes it a little, although I mainly see them as rock/metal.
I remember when I was a metalhead, The Chili Peppers was not really tough enough for me and now/when I got to be a funkhead (well, I don't listen to that much funk anymore, I listened to it all the time a couple of years ago), they're not really funky enough. I still think they've done some decent stuff though. I can't really stand their two latest records though!! It sounds gross and all the songs sound the same (well, except for "Roadtrippin'"). And then when they try to be more funky, like on the first single from their latest album, they of course put that gross chorus in that destroys everything!! The funky part of it is not that good either anyway.

Board: Let's leave this thread to the funk/rock/metal stuff and discuss, with much funktitude, the funkamental beauty of the old school funk. :]
