So I have a pair of m-audio mx8as coming in. Ive been mixing out of some $50 2:1 computer speakers and sub (Harmon/Kardon hk395s) for almost a year now. Will the difference in sound be pretty noticeable?

Also my desk is in the corner of my room against a wall, would i benefit from moving my desk more centered and away from the wall a bit? My room isnt treated properly but Im just wondering what would give me the best results

"Will the difference in sound be pretty noticeable?"

I should hope so

"my desk is in the corner of my room against a wall, would i benefit from moving my desk more centered and away from the wall a bit?"

Yes

Its a good enough starting point, better than what your current setup is. I would strongly suggest looking into some DIY acoustic treatment for your room. If done properly it will have as much of an impact on what you're hearing as upgrading from the pc speakers to monitors

What would be considered big? It's a small/medium size.

Thanks for the advice on treatment!

If you can, move your desk so that its facing the 10' wall, centered as opposed to the 15' wall

have the desk away from the wall somewhere around a foot or two and maybe think about getting monitor stands. That and lots of bass traps in all 4 corners, all the way up the wall, and some treatment for at least the sides from your mix position at your reflection points. There's a ton of great threads on here on DIY methods for building bass traps, etc ... for a good amount less than buying stuff. Use the custom search function listen at the beginning of the FAQ sticky thread to find them

Yeah my desk is already on the 10' wall. I'm looking into making bass traps now! Thanks for all the advice man, very helpful!
