So Glenn, is the recent news just as much a shock to you as it is to everyone else, or did the Iced Earth camp kind of hint at this during the failed talks to bring them to PP4?

It's a sad sad day for us Iced Earth fans. For those of you who don't know...Matt Barlow their singer has left the band. He wants to continue his education in the field of criminal justice. I hope he finds what he is looking for.

Jon's decision to stop the final mixing and make the lineup change actually came during the mixing process while he was at Morrisound Studios on the weekend of May 24. So, Matt's departure from the band wasn't a factor in the band not playing PPIV this year. In retrospect, it is a good thing that Glenn didn't sign IE this year as IE would have had to cancel on Glenn, just as they will have to cancel their headlining (prime) slot at Wacken this year.

well... it is possible that he could find another singer to join the band or to just sit in for a few important shows.. it DOES happen.. Hansi Kursh as a sit in anyone? Bands tend to find decent vocalists pretty quickly as opposed to drummers and guitarists from what I've noticed. Knowing that he won't settle for just anyone, chances are he's got something in mind, and if not, vocalists from all over the world will be submitting demos.

Seeing as how Barlow is the best singer on the planet (since Tate has lost his voice), Iced Earth will have no choice but to go backwards. Barlow's voice was powerful, unique, and passionate. He could scream with the best of them and sing a ballad with the best of them. Very few vocalist possess all of these traits.

It will be impossible to replace Barlow. Jon will definitely find a very good singer, but Iced Earth will not be Iced Earth as we know them anymore. Lets see what happens.
