Hi there,
a friend of mine hit me with a couple of tracks that his band recorded years ago at a local Studio around here.
He was asking if I could rescue one of their songs, as they've been very unsatisfied with the studio's work.
The point was: They had a limited budget (around 300 if I remember correctly) and wantet to record a bunch of songs with it.
So the decision they had to make was: Do they record 2 Songs properly or do they record all their songs with limited postprocessing?
Sadly they decided to record all of their songs.
As you can imagine the songs sounded horrible.
That's why they asked me if I could complete the mixing.
Well as this is my new hobby I was in of course.
This is what they got from the studio :

Wasn't easy to deal with. The kick drum was extremely dull, one guitar track was detuned, untight and played sloppy as hell... just to say the least.
And by the horrible accent of the vocals you can clearly hear that this band is from Germany...haha...
This is what I got out of it.

I know there is space for improvement, but I am freshman to the audio engeneering thing with little to no gear
(just a bunch of free plugins, no monitors...just my Hifi speakers, Cubase 4 LE wich came with my cheap alesis interface...)
so that at the end of the day I am pretty happy with the result.
What do you think?
What could I do better next time?
(One thing I already noticed: I forgot to use a De-Esser. Crap.)
