Damn, heres a ridiculous item from Finland, as featured on CNN this morning:

"In Finland, where fines are partially based on the income of crime offenders, a cell phone company executive is fighting a $103,000 speeding ticket."

HAHAHA! makes my $130 buck ticket from last summer sound inviting!

In Finland the fines are based on your personal wealth, which I think is a fairer system.

A $100 fine that would ruin a student's month wouldn't mean shit to a guy on $200,000 a year, so the Finns hit the rich guys harder so the fine actually means something.

Another reaon for rich people around the world to visit Finland. You can get a $100k speeding fine as a souvenir and all you have to do is to drive fast enough. And if you do that twice you'll get one extra fine for a friend!

I agree with the previous post. In USA it seems to be justified for
the rich to do almost anything cos they can get away from troubles just paying fines etc.

No kidden?! Wow...GOOD! Not that he got a speeding ticket. I know what that feels like, but the way they figure out what you're charged. It doesn't matter how much money you have, if you speed you'll get caught and feel like you were punished were as here in the US, if you have the dough...speeding ticket? Who cares. Just pay it off.

$103,000? :p  I would have loved to have seen the look on his face. hahaha

"When can I take you from this place?
When is the word but a sigh?
When is death our lone beholder?
When do we walk the final steps?
When can we scream instead of whisper?
When is the new beginning, the end of this sad Madrigal."

The verdict isn't as hard if you have been "under the influence of alcohol", but on the other hand, it's harder to successfully hit old ladies when you are really drunk...

I wonder why they have the speed limits, Hearse?
I am sure glad most people use them, it is people like you who are the danger out there and someone has to control that, I supposed you drink too when you drive?

And I agree that basing the fines on the sallary is good, serves the rich bastards right to have to pay more.

And Hearse if you wanna kill me now, remember to get drunk before cos then will only be manslaughter instead of murder

You get much lesser punishment if you "accidentally" drive by some under the influence of alchol, than from murder

In the US, drunk driving deaths are now being charged as murder, and for good reason. So many deaths out here are from drunk rednecks driving too fast or even on the wrong side of the road. The penalty is sometimes even harsher for those under the influence. Its not like they were driving too fast and killed someone, which has elements of both fault and accident to it, but rather they knowlingly put themselves behind the wheel of a deadly weapon and then killed someone, therefore its not viewed as accidental at all.

I pretty much agree with you about killing animals, Hearse. Every time I see a movie where an animal has been killed for no reason or see a dead animal on the side of the road, I feel bad for it. It's odd, though, because when someone in a movie is killed(or even in RL) I don't really feel the same remorse as I do for the animals. It's kind of sad, but I guess with all of the death around us and being constantly talked about I can't help but feel this way. Is there something mentally wrong with me?

There is nothing mentally wrong with you (well, at least my opinion), cause I too feel more pity for dying/died animals than dying/died humans.

Wow! That's awesome how they fine you based on your income. If we did something even close to that over here, maybe we'd actually be able to afford books for the public schools, much less make college free.

What was that you were saying, Demonspell? :p

But I'm shocked that the punishment is lighter for drunk drivers. That just makes no sense at all.
