I don't know if it is old news or not. I have not seen it posted here. So, here goes:

Finland's tech death metallers Amoral picked up a new frontman....former "Idols" winner Ari Koivunen. He is will be appearing on their fourth CD, which is due in 2009. The link to the news is here: http://www.amoralweb.com/index2.htm Scroll down 1/4 of a page for the news.

This is going to be very interesting as Amoral claims that Ari can "growl with the best of them."

Yeah, that's been all over Ari's MySpace profile and bulletins. I didn't know he could growl either, but it doesn't surprise me...he's a very talented young singer.

Besides, it was cool just seeing a Sonata Arctica song winning their National Idol competition. :headbang:

EDIT: I was gonna post a link to the Idol-winning Sonata performance, but it looks like they wre all pulled from YouTube due to copyright claims. Oh, well.

The most market-friendly songs from any CD tend to appear on singles. I suppose that since this song was chosen for a single release it isn't the whole truth about the new CD. Or maybe better to say I hope it isn't...

as a powerfag, I have to say, he sounds awful in this setting. His voice sounds completely seperate from the music.

BTW, is he saying "This is the year of the soccer moms?" Seriously.. Here I am, standing with the best of them, in the year of the soccer moms!

Unless they are going the Power route. Even then, Ari needs some serious work on his vocals.

I think they've proven with that song that they are completely changing directions and would rather play generic power metal now. It's a shame...I've been a big fan of theirs for years, and organized the US street team for awhile too. Musical style aside, Ari's vocals suck.

I still find it amusingly ironic that Erkki (the bassist from Decrowning/Rocket Ride) left Amoral because he was too busy playing in Ari's band.

QFT!^^^ Ari seriously needs vocal training. He is not dealing with an "Idol"-type producer who will mask bad vocals with lots of bells and whistles. I think Marco Hietala said it best when he thought Ari should not record until he better develops his voice.
