Hi guys!

Just finished playing with my own bands new single mix. No vocals gone down yet, just having trouble making everything clear. Getting the guitars the slam through as well as the drums. While making everything sound nicely balanced with the orchestra/synth. I really do think the guitar tone needs some work, as it does sound a bit over presence'y.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks and a Happy New Year!

Yeah the orchestra is way too loud I've sorted that out today.

The drums are just slate/sturgis truth kit hybrid, lots of layering going on with the snare aswell. A few random hits I've found on this forum too to chunk it out.
Guitars are just standard Podfarm treadplate combo with surgical eq'ing to get rid of some of the aggrevating freqz
Bass.... aha. Sidechained with the kick and paralell tracked. One with sansamp with everything cut below 500k and the other with waves MaxxBass running around 80khz.

New mix with Layered chango snare and kick samples is done though, 100% better balence of everything. I'll post up later tonight.

Thanks for the kind words guize!

It's not awful, I like some of the effects a lot, but the mix definitely needs work.

Guitar: Too muddy and scooped, you need more mids in general because it sounds like sludge
Bass: also too scooped and I hear too many high freq's from the bass
Mids are good, they add balance to a mix with the guitars

Drums: Sound really fake, needs some more natural sounds to them (not sure what to change with that...)
Toms: change the comp setting on them, they don't pop enough, too much of a "dong" sound
Cymbals: I dig a lot, maybe makes them a TINY TINY bit louder
Kick: It's good, I would add some high mids though
Snare: The comp on the snare is awful, and it doesn't "snap" at all. On the comp, put the attack to about 20 and see if that helps, and scoops mids, and raise highs

Electronics: I like them a lot, they are a tad loud though, just a smidge though. I would say give the violins faster attack

It's sounding good so far, and this is all my own opinion, and I'm not a pro, but take it for what it is. :)
