FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist Zoltan Bathory is working with Veterans Empowered To Protect African Wildlife (Vetpaw), a U.S.-based nonprofit organization funded by private donations, to help conservation efforts for rhinos and elephants in South Africa. Every year, thousands of rhinos and elephants are killed by poachers in South Africa. With the number of rhinos and elephants left on this earth dwindling, Vetpaw is working hard to help conservation efforts in Africa. Vetpaw employs well-trained U.S. veterans to protect elephants and rhinos against poachers in South Africa. By using techniques learned while in the line of duty, soldiers are given the opportunity to put their knowledge to good use, as well as finding appropriate work while transitioning back into the work place. Vetpaw was founded by Ryan Tate, a former U.S. marine. He served from 2003 to 2007 in some of the most dangerous locations during the Iraq War, such as Ramadi and Fallujah. In 2005, Ryan was recognized as his unit's Marine Of The Year and Non-Commissioned Officer Of The Year in 2006. After learning of the poaching issue plaguing East and South Africa, Ryan knew he had to do something to help. With his connection to the veteran community and knowledge of the unemployment crisis it was facing, Ryan decided to help fix both of these issues. Thus, the birth of Vetpaw. Zoltan is helping the cause by promoting Vetpaw and their new nonprofit jewelry. The guitarist recently came out to Vetpaw's base in South Africa (see photos below) and now is helping out by bringing awareness to this great cause.
