After two go-arounds the full CD, initial impression is that it is a pretty good effort! Huge Spock's Beard influence, some Dixie Dregs and just a bit of the mellower Dream Theater!. It is more of a Prog-Rock album than a metal one, although some cool distorted riffs are found throughout, particularly in the second track!

Am I the only one here who was disappointed? The prog potential was high considering the lineup, but the music was basically glorified pop.

I listened to it and was left unimpressed. Based on the caliber of musicians it should have been much better than the result.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant to be a full on prog release anyway. Reading the posts/tweets from Mike Portnoy during the writing process should have revealed that much to anyone.
