For those of you with wives, how do they feel about metal?

My wife and I moved into our new house Monday and today while unpacking some of the last stuff she found my cd collection.

She has no idea i'm into metal(and she's like the polar opposite of a metal chick)and she basically told me I was a retard for liking it.

wow what does she listen to? pop songs that take 10 minutes to write, I'm sure?

How can she not know what music her own husband likes? Musical preference is part of what makes you you. If she doesn't like one important aspect of you, to the point where she considers you a retard for it, then she doesn't really love you for you. tell her that. Damn I would be really pissed

I'm finding it just a tad strange that the whole dating/courting/fucking/seeing/being in a relationship with/living with and now being married to of this person didn't include one conversation about what music you're into. Or is she a mail order bride or something? Or did you meet at a casino and get married by an Elvis impersonator on a crazy whim? Whatever the reason, this won't do at all. Divorce this heinous wench before she sucks the very marrow from your being.

I have only been in two relationships (neither marriage though). My first was a metal chick and we met through music so naturally it wasnt a big deal.

My second always knew. She also tried to listen to my bands music but she is far removed from that kind of scene and just blatantly said that it wasnt her thing and we just kept on going.

I dont see how taste in music cn be a problem for a relation unless one or both parts insist on changing the other persons taste.

And you're married to her? How the fuck does that happen? Please tell me this is a joke. Did you deliberately keep it a secret? Why? It's not like you have a collection of Japanese beastiality videos or something. Seriously, man the fuck up. What is your deal?

and she basically told me I was a retard for liking it.

Seriously, is this thread a joke? How did you end up married to this person?

I am really confused about this thread.

I guess this is some mildly original trolling.

Not the general idea, but the details, anyway.

My wife is awesome! She really dislikes the brutal dark stuff but gets into the melodic. She completely supports metal. She encourages me to buy shirts and go to shows (she doesnt come most of the time). She will even get concerned if i dont do something related to metal (play guitar, practice vocals, killing spree).

She supports all my interests. From brutal death black metal to hardcore gaming!

Yes, my wife rules. I was scared to get married because I believed once married I would have to give up metal and everything else. Not the case though. I could no more sacrifice metal than sacrifice metal. Metal is Metal and Metal is Metal. Therefore, it is everything! And my wife is Metal!

I just finished reading all the posts. I wanted to express how great my wife is that i skipped over them all. I told my wife I loved metal on the first conversation we had. And I mean the first time we spoke.. ever!
With that said, I truly believe this dude to be bull shitting us.

My music is such a huge part of my life, before I even date someone they will probably realize that I'm into extreme metal. I doubt I'd even be with someone who thought my interests in metal music was "stupid". I'd probably kick their ass for saying such a thing.

Indeed. I don't think I'd be the same type of person if I didn't listen to metal. There are tons of people I work with who think metal is stupid, but then again these people listen to shitty dance rap and Britney Spears.

yeah the whole view on metal tends to be strangely backwards. i was never married, but the girl i dated for like 5 years, despite being closer to me than anyone, never knew a shit ton about my musical taste. i find most girls (unless their cool as hell) tend to look at metal as kind of dorky, while their listening to, um, dorks.

but alas, it is what it is.

I've found that people who don't listen to metal, but enjoy different types of music, tend to be more open to listening to metal. There's a girl I work with who wasn't particularly into metal at all and she asked me to give her some samples of stuff I like and she actually enjoyed some of it (mainly Pantera and some prog rock). She likes a bunch of different stuff though. The people I work with who don't like metal tend to only listen to one genre of music and tend to be MORE close minded about music than others.
