what exactly is the difference between the EC401 and EC1000 models, other than the flashy binding? looking at the specs, they look pretty much identical...i'm thinking of ditching my old ESP H-200 for one of these in the next few months, and am trying to figure out where the $300-400 price difference is between the 2 models.

Build quality.

Usually there are minor spec differences, but it's mostly build quality.

Think Epiphone Les Paul Custom vs. Gibson Les Paul Studio, in broad terms.

I own an old MH-1000 and old H-1000. The quality was noticeably better then the 400 series stuff.

not necessarily a bad thing...i guess the question is whether the quality of the 1000's has dropped, or if the 400s have gone up

i know that my old-ass H-200 is solid as fuck, TBH...everyone who has ever played it has loved it, and i've had a few offers from people who wanted to buy it from me on the spot. as great as it's been for a cheaper guitar, i'm just over the tone of the alder body.

lol...sorry lasse

not quite in my budget for a legit ESP :(

His point is, like its been made for years, that people use the ESP brand for LTD`s aswell, instead of only referring to them as LTD from the get go.

And it pisses me off too, especially in regarding to sales and marketing, both used and new.

LTD is not in the same league.

You dont call an Epiphone a Gibson right?

^ FWIW Gibson build consistency is such that its probably worth calling some Epiphones a Gibson over some of the proper Gibsons.

maybe the newer ones, but it depends on the year.

EC-401 = Made in Indonesia.

EC-1000 = Made in Korea and has a better bridge (tonepros). Also has locking tuners... I personally prefer the Grovers on the 400 series, haha.

I guess you also get the cosmetic "upgrades" such as the abalone binding/inlays (which look terrible, IMO), but I personally think the EC-1000's with the multi-ply binding (which I guess is also a "cosmetic upgrade") and the solid finishes look way better, lol.

Of course, there's the occasional jewel and the occasional turd from both series, but on average, I'd say the 1000 is built better.

an interesting thing to note is that the 2008 ec1000 (schaller tuners) weighs less than the 2011 model (esp tuners)

build quality between them is the same though.

The old deluxe models from 5+ years ago smoke any of the new ones. I own or have owned every single on of them and theyre always better than the newer ones people bring in to record with
