Dan Lorenzo, the founding member and guitarist of the bands HADES and NON-FICTION, was recently hired to help co-author a book about the New Jersey club scene. The book is loosely based on the former nightclub The Circus in Bergenfield, but encompasses many of the other popular nightclubs in the state at the time (the late '70s/early '80s) as well. "After an extensive search in the tri-state region, there was no one more qualified in my mind than Dan Lorenzo," stated author Rick Bandazian. "He lived it back then and still has a pulse on the scene, as witnessed in his work with Steppin' Out magazine."Lorenzo said, "New Jersey had an amazing club scene for cover bands before the drinking age was raised from eighteen. You could go out any night of the week and the clubs would be packed. "I remember going to The Circus to see TT QUICK when they still played a full set of Bon Scott-era AC/DC. "I remember TWISTED SISTER performing a great medley of songs from the 'new' BLACK SABBATH album 'Heaven and Hell'. "In 1982, the original version of HADES opened up for TWISTED SISTER at The Soap Factory which held a couple thousand people in its multiple rooms. We'd play alternating sets with TWISTED SISTER. "I just interviewed TWISTED guitarist Jay Jay French today for the book. He has a vivid memory of the scene back then."The as-yet-untitled book is set for a 2014 release.
