Former Misfits guitarist, Bobby Steele (1978 through 1980 – Horror Business, London Dungeon, Night Of The Living Dead) announces the May 2025 release of Act Your Rage… Again.
On a somewhat belated 35th anniversary of their groundbreaking Act Your Rage, The Undead brought together members of classic punk, metal and pop acts for re-recordings of their classic 1989 album.
Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Guns N’ Roses / Asia / Sons Of Apollo) adds blistering guitar to the album’s opening track, “Evening Of Desire”. This is followed by “Hollywod Boulevard”, featuring Tim Capello (The Lost Boys ‘sexy sax man’ / Ringo Starr’s All-Star Band / Tina Turner) on sax, intermingling and trading licks with Paul LaScola on lead guitar – at times creating a cacophony of notes representing the chaos of an L.A. street riot. Lead vocals are shared between Bobby, Alex Story (Doyle / Cancerslug) and former Undead bassist, Biz Tronix. Backing vocals include Diana Steele alongside a ‘choir’ from Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock youth center.
Buzzcocks bassist, Steve Garvey joins with N Y Dolls’ original lead guitarist, Rick Rivets on “Eve Of Destruction” – backing Diana Steele on lead vocal. Dez Cadena (Black Flag / Misfits) takes over on guitar for “Undead” with Alex Story on lead vocal and Argyle Goolsby (Blitzkid / The Undead) on bass. Greg Hetson (Circle Jerks / Bad Religion) handles lead guitar, with Alex Story on vocals for “I Don’t Wanna Go”.
Ace Von Johnson (L.A. Guns / Faster Pussycat / US Bombs / Murphy’s Law) handles guitar on “We Don’t Want The Poor In New York City”, with Sweden’s Andreas Holma (Soilwork / Hipocrisy) on bass. “Social Reason” features Megadeth drummer, Dirk Verbeuren. Tim Capello returns on sax for “Put Your Clothes Back On”, with former Undead drummer, Boris.
Dez Cadena returns on lead guitar for both “Ratt Fink” – with Ethan Boras on drums; and “In Eighty Four” – with Steve Garvey (bass), Tim Capello (sax) and Argyle Goolsby (lead vocal).
The Undead includes Diana Steele (guitar/keyboards/vocals), Joe Stoker on drums, and Tristan DeGraves on bass
Act Your Rage… Again will be available on limited purple and orange vinyl, as well as CD and digital download.
Making their debut on January 31, 1981, The Undead quickly established a local reputation that helped lead to the East Village music and NYHC scenes’ worldwide recognition. Based on the band’s reputation, STIFF Records signed The Undead in December ’81… releasing their debut EP, Nine Toes Later, in June ’82. As their international reputation grew with the release of independent 45s and a German mini-LP, Never Say Die!, Bobby re-entered the studio with Steve Zing (Samhain / Danzig) on drums, to record what would eventually become 1989’s Act Your Rage!
Shopped to numerous independent labels who all rejected the album, claiming it either ‘sucks and will never sell’ or that they were looking for something more like The Undead’s previous releases (which they’d previously passed on), Bobby decided he would do it on his own.
Not trusting established distributors who would kill releases by not paying the artist in a timely manner – leaving them without money to repress, Bobby made arrangements with Forefront Records, who paid in advance for the ability to distribute Act Your Rage!, to be the sole distributor.
On May 8, 1989, Act Your Rage! sold out its initial run of 5,000 LPs and 2,000 Cassettes. Within a week, another 2,000 LPs and 1,000 cassettes arrived at Post Mortem records – all of which sold out before summer’s end. Act Your Rage! began to climb CMJ’s college radio charts, placing songs in the top 20 of 400 stations, breaking the top 5 in many, and reaching #1 at 100 college stations. “Put Your Clothes Back On” held the #3 spot at KFMH, a 100KW commercial station in Iowa for several weeks.
As one large indie label put it, “We’ve discussed you with other labels. We agree that you’re a phenomenon. We’ve also agreed that none of us will ever work with you.”
