French mother banned from entering the USA because of her name

Our own intel service let her fly all around europe about a dozen times, but USA doesn't, and, coincidence, her name is precisely pronounced like "Al Qaeda" ? :)

Also, the no-fly list is triggered by names in the first place, I don't think it is far fetched to imagine this is the simple reason. Many people claim they don't understand why they are denied flying to USA and I don't think all of them are terrorists.

Well hold on it says they don't know why they were denied access and the name theory is her own. It's a possibility but I think the article's title is a little misleading. ;)

It's basically the problem people have with this no-fly list. Basically, no one knows how you get on the list, some people found themselves in because they are left wing activists which throw tomatoes during actions, even a 70yo nun got in because of some catholic protest she did 15 years before which involved a sitting. And, astonishingly, there is absolutely no procedure to get you out of the list. So, someone, somewhere, doesn't like your name or thinks it sounds too much like X or Y and you can't get in, and you don't know why nor can remove yourself from the list. Land of the free ?

The only thing you can do is prove a false-positive, but if you are yourself on the list, as unfair as it can be, you're done.

Taking something from The Daily Mail at face value...

...And people say Americans are foolish.

Wait, we are. Nevermind.

This...is not true. At all. It's a pain in the ass administratively, but of course there's a procedure to get yourself off the no-fly list: https://www.dhs.gov/dhs-trip

Unless you're talking about the French version, in which case I don't know but I suspect it's a similar procedure.

The factuality of any of that is completely undetermined. You can tell from the way she's smiling in that picture that even she isn't really buying it.

Shame about the money loss though.

All right, but up to at least some years ago it was absolutely impossible and what I am saying was true. That lasted for at least several years, and the case of that senator is very well known, because of this very fact itself.

There is no "no fly list" as described here. There might be people followed by our intel service, but it is not something like the US no fly list. I have never heard any case of people wrongly added on a list, and I have been in the industry for years already

What do you mean ?

Just what I said. It could very well be that she's just in it to make some extra money publishing the story. At the moment her story really isn't THAT credible. She did lose money having her plane tickets getting forfeit though.

I'm really not the one to hold up an american flag, so I won't completely discount her story. The point is, though, that I'd REALLY want to know more before actually believing any of that.

I know a guy who got declined because he was mistaken for another dude who's on the more extreme side of islam,
they both have the same name (German) but look completly different, same birthyear, but that's it besides the name.
Took him almost a year and a lawyer to get his visa for his year at a university in the states after that case...

Yeah, if you end up on the NFL it's a huge pain in the ass and it definitely happens to people erroneously all the time. If I were to guess, there are more "safe" than dangerous people on that list. On the other hand, this story is more conjecture than fact so you can't really take it at face value.
