One of the reason I love the SM7b is its ability to take eq, especially in the high end. Have you tried it with just a pop filter and remove the windscreen? A slight lift with a decent eq. Love that mic.

I always get better results with a LDC. I enjoy the sm7 on a few voices, but not mine! And I've moved away from recording for income.
