Full song with 5150 preamp out with dummy load + s-preshigh impulse (metalfoundry)

Sorry i didn't realize this got noticed here as i thought the rate my mixtone were more appropriate.

There is quite much going on in the FX chains there, i think the guitar and the bass sound is the simpliest as they have a very little going on.

Guitar: Schecter C-1 Hellraiser
Pickups: EMG-81 8volts upgraded to 18volts

AMP: 5150 head (No amp models for me no more) for this u need a dummy load to use with pc as the 5150 doesn't produce preamp out without standby and with standby without dummy load it's bye bye output transformer.
FX chain for guitars
S-preshigh cab impulse with lecab -> Q10 renaissance EQ -> c4 multiband compressor and both guitars are chained to a one track that has a nice room verb to glue it to the mix and also NICELY and little used widens the sound.

Drums: Geez... there would be so, SO much going on. Sidechaining, parallel compression, snare sends to 3205920395 millions of different channels compressors verbs, plate verbs... master bus routing.. i really think fooling around with the plugins and reading this forum is ALL you need. That's what i've done :D

This didn't help much but, i'll answer to more spesific questions if ya need, screen caps or whatsoeva.

Nice work! I'm digging the tone. 6505 into the ol' pres8/high can be pure gold when you're on budget constraints. If you get a Countryman Type 85, you can output the actual speaker out into your interface this way, getting the power amp saturation too. I think you'd enjoy the benefits that can bring.

did you use the preamp out of the fx send for this?
they sound very different on my 5150, but i don't quite have a preference.

ermin, actually i have a countryman 85 di. let me get this straight, you would want to run the speaker out into the countryman instrument input (set to speaker), run another speaker cable from the countryman amp out into the cab, and use the xlr out to record that right?
how about the levels? will i get a reasonable level without cranking the poweramp?

Im glad you liked it! To be honest, i have lurked very much info from your posts here so it's the best thing to have a "good job" reward from you. :D I have to soak my mind to the countryman thing also!

Nope, i used the "output" from my self made dummy load. It's a bit different as you can adjust the load to the head. but, just try taking the MID fuck off, lead at 4 on red channel , low at 3-4, high at 6, post gain at, 4, resonance at 6 and presence at 8, that should get near, if you then use a basic methods of EQ and c4. 130-280 compression, scooping 300hz and 800~ and cutting from 14k.. you'll get near i easily! :)

My feedback is simplistic: It sounds great.

Words of wisdom!

I did a side by side comparison last night between the effects loop out and the power section. I knew capturing the power section was way better, I just wanted to hear them back to back. The power section has so much more texture and color. It really puts the icing on the cake. The difference is so large that there is no need to a/b or listen very closely, it's a drastic improvement. I am also using a speaker cab that is pointed facedown as a load box. I am OCD about things and think that a speaker may be a better dynamic load, which would matter more when actually capturing the power section. I may be wrong, but I do it that way to make sure.

I've found that the preamp out is my least favorite route. It seems to be overall lacking compared to the effects loop send.

+1 for that question that hasn't been clearely answered yet

Definitely one of the best non-mic'd amp tones I've heard from a 5150.

Also, if you didn't sample Metal Foundry, this is also the best I've heard it without samples on top.

The snare could be a bit wetter to gel to the mix a bit more. The drums are nice and punchy, but they may be sticking out a tiny bit too much.

Cheers!

Agree the snare wettness, these things are something that'll get better slowly but firmly. Then they go to hell and when the hell freezes it will be better then before, that's what i've been experiencing with these mixes. Now im pretty darn happy that people have liked it so much! I have not been fooling with the 5150 on direct very much, all just "this sounds cool" -line of thoughts that seemed to work pretty well! I think i can make this thing even better, gotta save that template though to make a milestone there. Thanks for input! Digging your stuff very VERY much!
