Just watching through these.. interesting for drummers, not sure how much for production guys, but he uses the same method I do for tuning, may help you guys who struggle with that. Finger in the middle muffles it a bit and then you focus on the tonic. Just be careful to keep the pressure constant so you're not changing the tension of the drum as you go around.

edit: some really cool stuff for playing live with a click.

yeah, thanks for posting these. big fan of his playing.
he really knows how to tune drums

Not a huge Porcupine Tree fan (anymore) but a masterful drummer indeed.
Thanks for posting these vids dude

Digging the snare sound on these videos (minus the huge hall verb). Nice and deep, with a cool bounce. What kind of snare is it?

Not so much the snare he has on the left side, but just the one down the middle. Reminds me of that snare sound I love on 'Deadwing'.

I haven't watched the whole vid, but from what I did watch in part 1, all the audio is from the camera mic.

Which is just insane.

I know he uses Sonor but I don't know what type.

Didn't think I would like this since I'm not a drummer or that much into Porcupine Tree, but I watched both videos. Seems like a really cool guy that loves what he does, and of course is really good at it.
In part 2 he talks about modern mastering butchering snare and kick peaks and thats why their latest album is so quiet compared to other ones, cool to hear.
