I doubt he even made $300 in royalties. He did little of the song writting on that CD. It was not that big of a success and they played relatively few venues and most were very small. I would be very suprised if Geoff Tate made that kind of money with sales, touring, publishing and merch. He invested a lot of money into that project that he had to make up. However, I'd be willing to bet Moughton said he was getting that much money in royalties was a way of covering the theft. I guy who appeard underemployed has a shitload of money, you have to wonder what illegal activity he participating in. Take that same guy who was in a band that was somewhat famous and he tells you he's getting residuals from the project, you might noy be so skeptical.
