Former QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate spoke to the Northwest Music Scene about the first time he was joined by his now-21-year-old daughter Emily to perform the band's classic song "Suite Sister Mary". Tate, who is celebrating the 30th anniversary of QUEENSRŸCHE's "Operation: Mindcrime" album on his current tour, said: "Oh, wow. It was something very special. Emily has an amazing band, TILL DEATH DO US PART. They've been opening up for us this last year. They have their first CD out and it's fantastic. I had to ask her to do it [sing 'Sister Mary']. She was very hesitant about it at first. She's grown up listening to the song and grown up watching Pamela [Moore] sing it on tour. We've had a couple of different guest vocalists sing that part, including Maria Brink from IN THIS MOMENT. Emily has grown up watching these really great singers sing this song and was a bit hesitant because it's a big part. It's very meaningful to a lot of people who love the album and she wanted to make sure she did a good job. I said, 'Come to rehearsal and we'll rehearse it a lot and you see how you feel.' After one rehearsal, I was convinced that she could definitely do it. She walked out the first night and nailed it." He continued: "She's a good singer. Since then, she's taken it, perfected it in her own way, and made it her own thing, which I encourage. I like people to take my music and give it their expression, put themselves into it. I think that makes it very special. She's done a great job with it and actually enjoys singing with me on that song every night. We have a good time doing it." For most of 2018, Tate has celebrated the 30th anniversary of "Operation: Mindcrime" by performing the iconic concept album live in its entirety. The "Mindcrime" live set covers all 15 songs from the album including such fan favorites as "Revolution Calling", "Operation: Mindcrime", "I Don't Believe In Love" and the closing track, "Eyes Of A Stranger". His current touring band features Kieran Robertson from Scotland on guitar, Bruno Sa from Brazil on keyboards, Jack Ross from Scotland on bass, Scott Moughton from Canada on guitar, Josh Watts from England on drums and Geoff Tate's daughter Emily, who is singing the parts of Sister Mary. Tate's latest musical endeavor, OPERATION: MINDCRIME, has released three albums over the past three years as part of a trilogy: "The Key" (September 2015), "Resurrection" (September 2016) and "The New Reality" (December 2017).
