just out of curiousty, how many here slam dance or floor-punch, thrash, mosh...whatever you wanna call it; which of you get in the pit?

~And~

What do you good people think of women getting in on the fun?

I love slaming around more than thrashing only 'cause the guys here thrash unfairly. They love to aim for my chest (to put it nicely so I don't embarress you men). I should probrably even up the score and start kicking guys in the balls.

I don't like the way women are treated at concerts.

I'd rather actually watch the band rather than mosh. Sometimes you'll get into the mosh without trying. I was at a concert one time and minding my own business when a body surfer kicked me in the head. Wasn't fun at all.

In all honesty, I can't handle crowds. I get panic attacks and start feeling my breathing become labored. I almost burst out crying at the Blind Guardian concert 'cause there was no room at all to move and the pit was just feet away, but my friend held on to me; he doesn't like me going into pits. I had a panic attack at his band's gig and ran out of the club to calm down. I was all in tears and shaking violently. When I'm in the pit, I feel fine and getting out my aggravations is great. I don't mind getting messed up a bit, when you have that adrenaline running thru you you hardly notice the pain.

I would rather live to see tomorrow, although one night at the Whiskey, I was kicked. Hell, the mf made me spill my drink, so I followed him running and kicked him in the ass! That was the last time I did anything like that. That was in 2000. This past Saturday night at the LA Metal Show, I couldn't help but watch the crazies, if you ask me, I think they all look like a bunch of morons running around. Maybe a boxing ring would be better!
Hail!!!!!

Sorry to hear that. At the very concert I mentioned above there was a drunk-out-of-his-mind guy that kept fighting every five minutes. When that happened the whole crowd moved over as one, so everyone was pushing and shoving to get away.

I don't like crowds either....simply for the fact that too many people annoy me.:D

I say if a guy aims for your chest while in the pit, his 'jingle bells' are fair game !

I think it blows. Plain and simple.
I find more joy in watching and listening to the bands that are playing than in kicking and punching other people.

Too bad not everyone thinks this way.

I like being close to the action (the band) but not really interested in trying to show how tough I am by pushing people around. You're right Liz, it's all fair game , I've always seen women get abused at these shows. Mostly when they crowd surf because every guys hand is going everywhere. You've all been to plenty of shows to know that there are usually fights and it's just no fun to get thrown out of a show. Usually the security at these venues (especially now) is pretty brutal. Bunch of ex-jocks trying to be badasses. I'm mainly into watching / listening to the band. That's what I'm paying to do. Have a few beers etc .. I don't mind if they wanna do it though, that adds to the atmosphere of a metal show. Nothing wrong with it , just don't want to be a part of it.

I hate mosh pits....I want to watch msuicians, not look out for the skinhead in jackboots and camo pants whose flailing around kicking everyone. If someone startes shit near me I'll throw punches to get that shit to stop. I'm not in the mood to be fucked with when I'm watching a favorite band of mine.

I havent been in a "pit" in well over 10 years. I prefer to stand right up front or way in the back and avoid the total idiocy that has become "slam dancing" I havent actually seen a real pit like the old days in well over 10 years that Id want to participate in anyway. Everyone is just out to kill each other in the "penis pits"

Well, i haven't visited many concerts yet, but I must say, I bang my head rather than moshing around...well, it is not about getting the one or other ellbow, its the damn lack of oxygen, which causes me to leave a moshpit after few minutes :( I wish for better lungs and muscles next christmas .....

I will get in the pit every once in a great while. Depends on how I feel, what band is playing, and the other people in the pit. More often than not I prefer to just stand and watch the bands with a beer in hand and sometimes banging my head. Some pits can be fun. I like the good old circle pits.

Just as a comparison...I was at a show in Vienna Austria in October. I saw Cannibal Corpse, Dew-Scented, Severe Torture and Viu Drakh. Great Show! This was the first European show I had ever been to and I found it really cool that there was virtually no pit throughout the entire show. And when one did form during Cannibal, it was very short-lived and nothing like the Napalm Death pit last night in Phoenix which was just insane. But almost everyone in the place (back to Vienna, not Phoenix) was doing some serious headbanging. It was very cool.

I used to pit a lot, now just for the songs that inspire me... I like it when women get involved, but I try not to slam into them....

Ouch... Well, I'll help you protect your chest! ;)

:p

I've always preferred watching the band than running in circles. I'll make my way to the front, that way I can watch as I thrash around & release my energy. I used to enjoy diving until I re-tore the a/c in my left knee during a dive. It was the 3rd time I've torn it so I take it easy now. Although since thrash shows have been making a comeback, it gets more and more tempting to risk going airborne!

I used to mosh all the time. Now that i am 32, I kind of feel to old to do it.
And there isn't anyone as strong at me in these pits (except at the big shows), so I look kind of stupid pushing people around.

lol! thanks xenophobe, you're too kind :D I was thinking of wearing a metal chest plate under my Testament tank top when i thrash.

A word to the ladies out there-- should you go in the pit, don't wear low cut pants. Take it from me ;) Another no-no would be if you have long ass hair like I, wear up in a braid. Catching men in your hair like fish in a net may sound pleasent, but it sucks horribly.

DIRT-- ah come on, I see old manowar bastards in the pit, they're all gray. Yeah, they are also drunk, but still. Oh well, don't wanna get arrested for killing people in the pit, huh?
