IMO Godsmack is an underrated band among "audio guys". Sure it is mainstream, but have you guys listened to the last album (The Oracle)? I didn´t like the album IV at all, but now they´ve added a southern metal groove to their grunge/metal style.

Album was produced by Dave Fortman, the guy behind Evanescence. I can´t imagine better tones or a better mix for this style. It´s just perfect for the straight foward "dropped riffage rhythm guitar-bass-drums" metal. Found some extensive studio footage here http://www.rockpit.com/godsmack/. Splawn, Diezel and ENGL heads.

Is this the album the radio track "Cryin' like a bitch" is on? That song is fucking stupid.

Awake was a really good album, with a killer mix (fizzy guitars and overall a really messy mix.. but still, perfect for the style imo).

The rest.. meh.

Awake is a GREAT album, love it from start to finish, I even have two copies of that album (long story I don't even remember myself, I'm pretty sure both are scratched to death anways haha), love that instrumental song about vampires, and the Spiral. Shit I gotta listen to it again, how do find it? Left it in venezuela in unhearable conditions.

Never cared for anything else though, not even listened, too lazy

Yep. It is about Motley Crue prima donna behaviour on their last tour.

Thanks for reminding me to wipe my ass.

You´re welcome, that´s why it´s an appreciation thread.

Pretty sure these guys should be working with Randy. Mix sounds flat and fizzy as hell, and the kick... ugh.

You say that based on the shitty quality YouTube mp3 or the CD version?

I like Faceless too. It´s less grungy than Awake but has great songs like Straight Out Of Line, Make Me Believe and I Stand Alone.

Shitty youtube mp3!

Though it seems characteristic of their prior records, veiled as it may be. They've always had this semi-raw, fizz sound. If you listen to Awake above, you can tell that sort of riffing, that arrangement... Randy could turn it into something Godlike.

Edit: Forgot to add my appreciation. I actually don't mind these guys of late. There is something endearing about the music. I dig the vocalist's phrasing and what it does for the music, which I guess is a statement I don't find myself making too often.

Awake was the best album they ever did, but the vocals just make me angry because hes trying so hard to sound like Layne Staley that its almost like a bad joke. But Awake is still a good album haha

ughhhh ... really

This band fucking blows, they blew when I saw them in the early 90s in Boston, and they suck now. If Rombola didn't eat that PR rep from the record labels pussy they never would have got signed...... Shit music, shit band, shit attitude.

i dig Awake...

i was 14 years old learning to play guitar and these songs were very easy to play and i looked totally bad ass playing them to my friends.

Edit: it had been so long since i listened to awake, that OMG! the drums sound terrible!! but i never knew this back then.

I can't fucking stand Godsnack.

Before I knew they used to be an Alice In Chains cover band I thought it was lame that they stole an AIC song title for their band name. Now it's just the generic riffs and "I'm a tough guy" vocals that irritate me to no end.

They're like the posterchild for Radio rock where I live, and I loathe the entire fucking genre. Seether, 3 days Grace, Linkin Park...

I'd rather listen to country.
