I've seen Anton La Vey's name pop up a few times on this forum. I'm an open-minded fellow, and I tried to read one of his books a few years ago. I gave up half-way through because he seemed like such a pompous ass. How anyone could see that smug, obnoxious, "unholier-than-thou" clown as a role model, guru, or great philosepher is beyond me. He seems like someone who got one too many wedgies in the fourth grade and went nuts, but that's just my humble opinion.

I admit I have a limited understanding of the Church of Satan, but from what I gather, he basically founded his church by creating a doctrine that is the opposite of Christianity mixed with things he learned from reading books by Aleister Crowley. And while I'm sure there is alot more to the story than that, I've never heard of a devine/demonic or mystical experience that might have served as a catalyst to the creation of his church, and since I do believe in those type of experiences, in my mind, that tends to negate the validity of the CoS.
