Good bass songs?

Orion is pretty bad ass. Battery is also fun since it uses basic 3 finger style. Now I sound like a pro when I'm only intermidiate.

Anthrax songs are really fun to play on bass, especially stuff off Among The Living.

So are Iron Maiden songs, like Phantom Of The Opera, Wraithchild, The Number Of The Beast, The Prisoner, Aces High, Two Minutes To Midnight etc

As well as a lot of Black Sabbath, as there's so much room for improvisation. NIB is exceptionally fun to play because of the bass solo at the beginning.

Then there's the standard Metallicas like Anethesia (Pulling Teeth), Orion and The Call Of Ktulu which all have fun bass solos, but also the less extravagant stuff like Creeping Death, No Remorse, Master Of Puppets, Trapped Under Ice etc are also great fun.

Also Megadeth have some good basslines like Peace Sells, Take No Prisoners, Dawn Patrol etc.

What skill level would you class yourself as? I can play all of the above mentioned and I have only been playing for about a year and a half. Demolition Hammer songs sound like they have really fun basslines, so I may start learning some of them too.

This.

Along with a few of my own :

Dream Theater - Panic Attack (this may prove to be a bit difficult though lol), Take the Time, Octavarium has some badass parts to it as well, but it stretches past the 20 minute mark sooo.....
Evile - Bathe in Blood, Genocide, Metamorphosis. Its Evile. Need I say more?
Lamb of God - Laid to Rest, this one has a pretty cool bassline
Death - Cosmic Sea (See Panic Attack lol)

Thanks a lot for the ideas guys! I've tried a load of them out so far.

I got my bass about a week ago, but I was using my guitar as a bass for ages with my band and stuff, so I can play (I'd say) most intermediate level lines so far. It's kind of different when you write them yourself though I find (I can play them better).

I had a go at 'Number of the Beast' and '2 Minutes to Midnight' and could play them alright. Also, anyone like S.O.D? They have epic basslines.

*EDIT*

'Killing In The Name' on bass is such fun.

Snow by RHCP is retty fun and kinda relaxing to play. But it's at it's best if you figure out the easy little bass fills in the verse. Makes you feeel cool since they're not included in most tabs:

Oooh, Testament, nice choice! I love that song as well, I'll get to that right now.

Do it with your fingers instead of a pick and I might throw in a 20000gil bonus, alongside a fire ring and 10 Hi-Potions

EDIT: Also, try pretty much anything by Coroner. Seriously impressive basswork there.

^ Coroner is even hard with a pick.
But yeah throw away that pick. Playing bass guitar with a pick is even easier than playing guitar with a pick. Try some Red hot chili peppers stuff for your slapping 'n popping; Power of Equality / Can't Stop / Around the world / Mellowship Slinky in B Major.

^ An easy coroner song on bass would be Last Entertainment (TV Bizarre).

- Guns 'n Roses' "Sweet child of mine" has some fun licks to play.
Crystal mountain by Death is also doable with fingers.

There are some nice bass breaks and solos in Megadeth songs.

Peace Sells, Hook In Mouth, Take No Prisoners and Skull Beneth The Skin all have some nice licks and/or solos.

I find I can play better with my fingers than with a pick. You don't get the same feel out of a piece of plastic

I, for one, can play almost as fast as a guitar on my bass with a pick (with exception of fast alternate pick stuff). However fingerstyle is muuuuuch more fun haha. But I'm fuckin' slow with fingers. So that's why I play mah methulz with a pick. Crystal Mountain however is a good example of my finger speed; that's perfect for me. A tad faster would've been too hard.

I have no problems as playing as fast as a guitar with my fingers, it's like having 3 picks for me

Then applause for you  If I want to do the single-string-fast-picking thing I use Brian Beller's technique (he has a video on youtube about it). It's basically doing the Star Trek greeting minus the thumb / ring finger / pinky and use that as a pick.

Wow. How the fuck did I get from Star Trek to fingering technique.
