Hell yeah! This is great news! Iced Earth is one of my favourite metal bands and eventhough Ripper Owens is not bad at all , he's not as good as Mr.Barlow IMO. Really looking forward to hearing Something wicked part 2, since Part 1 was a bit disappointing.
Wierd though. Matt left because he couldn't commit the time. He joined Pyramaze because he didn't have to commit the time, and now he's back to IE....?
Holy crap, THAT'S what he looks like?! Jesus, I hate his voice, but I can't believe that bellow comes from such a moderately-sized dude (I thought he'd be a whale!)
I like Barlow. Owens isn't a bad singer but for some reason I just cringed when I heard their stuff with him. It doesn't work for me.
I liked alot of their stuff up to (and including) Horror Show. I think he has some good ideas here and there but alot of the writing is just boring and the vocals are just plain silly some of the time.
I really want to hear a killer album from them but I'm just not expecting it anymore.
a shame though, as much as I have not liked Ripper in Iced Earth I have to say this last one he did a pretty damn good job on. Maybe its just because the material is also a bit stronger than that fucking Glorious Burden carwreck but there are a few tunes on the new one where he is pretty killer sounding. He's just too clean sounding, like a human keyboard or something.
Haha, maybe.
I realised the other day that IE sound best with no solos. The last two albums have had shocking "solos", while Horror show was intense and didn't waste time with solos.
ripper already has a bunch of projects going on, and supposedly he wasn't as excited about iced earth as he is about winter's bane and beyond fear and whatever. maybe he wanted to leave, and concentrate on something where he wasn't just an expendable replacement.
i still doubt their next album will be more than decent
