I listened to a few Manilla Road albums recently... then Mercyful Fate... then King Diamond himself... and I realized I dont know much about plain old Heavy Metal (and dont take 'plain old' the wrong way because I really enjoy it)

anyone want to throw the classics my way?

Judas Priest - Stained Class
Cirith Ungol - Frost and Fire
Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead
Satan - Court in the Act

...to name a few.

Adramelch - Irae Melanox (like Guardian-era Fates Warning, but faster, darker, and more progressive)
Helstar - Remnants of War (rifftastic traditional/speed/power)
Sacred Blade - Of the Sun + Moon (imagine Priest going more laid-back and psychedelic after Stained Class, but retaining the speed)
Savatage - The Hall of the Mountain King (you may already know them, but just in case...)
The Lord Weird Slough Feg - Down Among the Deadmen (new band, but still great metal)

Slauter Xstroyes - Free the Beast

Seconded; it's Powerslave-era Maiden, but better. Only they can make a song titled "Wicked Bitch" the most epic song of 80's metal.

Saxon - Sollid Ball Of Rock, Metalhead
Judas Priest- Screaming For Vengeance, Painkiller
W.A.S.P. - The Crimson Idol, The Headless Children
U.D.O. - Timebomb, Holy
Grim Reaper - Rock You To Hell
