Anyone know of any solid studios to check out in Virginia?? Preferably in the D.C. region or within an hour or so outside... I'm moving to Alexandria and wanted to see who is doing good work in the area...

There are a few studios you can check out.

Close to you in Alexandria you might check out Bias Studios. I did my internship there and they are fantastic. Very personable and have been around for a long time. Two studios with custom API consoles. They record lots of jazz and solo musicians. If you are looking for a job, they don't really have anything open as business is not enough to warrant another engineer as they have three right now. But in the DC area, Bob and Jim are the best. There is also Inner Ear studios which is near you as well. I think Inner Ear is in Arlington. I believe they use Digital Performer but also have a Pro Tools rig. Insider of Inner Ear, there is another place called Silver Sonya. From what I understand they do mastering and some recording.

Omega should still be open they have three studios Neve Desk, SSL E or G, and a Vintage API Desk, besides their Midi Room. Its in Rockville. MD off the Beltway. I went to school there and while I was learning about the VCA automation hooked up to the API the Allman Brothers were jamming classics for a Miller Commercial in studio A.

Cue probably has one of the best selections of good drum rooms in the area. I interned there years ago before i was fulltime and before my move to FL.

Love the guys over there...

Bias is good yeah... but the drum rooms arent very live. The custom api consoles are super bitchin though.

There is a some good places up near baltimore as well... omega is really good from what i remember.

There is also a good studio down in waldorf where i grew up called nightsky studios.

Sure did. I actually co produced the seemless. Did most of the tracking with them actually. We did it longview farms in MA and then tracked some vocals down here at audiohammer.

The last song on that album is one of my favorite songs i've ever worked on. Please tell jesse i said hello! He is one of the best man... love that guy!

I will surely tell him you said hello should be seeing him next weekend... and the last song on that album is amazing stuff... I remember Jesse saying you guys pretty much tracked the whole album minus vox in less than a week at Longview... That place is killer, I'd love to check it out someday...

I have heard that Cue is pretty dirty these days. I've heard some good things and some bad things, but I'm sure thats common for any place.

As far as Bias goes, the only really live room they have is the pit in studio A, otherwise they are mostly pretty dead spaces.
