City beneath the surface
Grave Digger is a band I simply passed over all these years. I ran across their stuff yesterday while looking at Amazon. From there, I began sampling some of their songs. I liked what I heard, so I picked up a disc of their's called, Rheingold. I've listened to it a couple of times already and I'm diggin' it fairly well. The weakest thing for me is the song writing itself. I can handle cheesy, but the writing itself doesn't flow as well as it should. The strongest part of the band for me is the guitarist, Manni Schmidt. He plays with some signatures for sure and just doesn't play repetitive power chords all the time. His playing reminds me a bit of Jorn Viggo Lofstad for comparison's sake.

With all that being said, how does the rest of their catalog hold up to Rheingold? Does it get better, worse etc.? :kickass:

Grave Digger. One of my all time favorite bands. Not a bad disc, except for the one under the name "Digger". "Excalibur" is my favorite followed by "Tunes of War". I will post slight reviews/ratings for each album (kind of like that King Diamond thread a few weeks back) later on tonight.

as for Rheingold, "Maidens of War" is my favorite track on that.

Manni Schmidt, the guitarist, was a member of RAGE for a long period. Great guitarist, but I prefer Uwe Lulis better with GD.
