great deal on some AKG 414's...

lol, sort of

i was actually just getting on CL to list my ampeg on there, and you know how it goes...you can't get on there without looking thru the listings, and i stumbled across what i thought was a good enough deal on the 414's to warrant me sharing it.

Yeah, it's the 414 without all the polar pattern options, so IOW just a solid cardioid condenser (I've honestly not heard much about the sound quality of 414's, it's always their versatility people go on about, though I guess if they didn't sound good, the versatility wouldn't be worth much to the pros)

i've used 414's a bunch of times, and they're really nice mics, albeit pretty damn bright/shimmery

and the C214 sounds good in theory and all, but i honestly don't know why you would buy one when you can get the 414's for used for the same price

Well for those like us who think that way, of course I agree, but some people just insist on buying new :Smug:

yea...i bought all my shit new when i first got started, but that's because i have a special hookup through a certain retailer and get their stuff at cost. it's still a bit more than the new price, but it was worth it in that case.

NOW...i just need to find a source of funds for this bass that i found on ebay for really cheap, lol

Hahaha, you're never gonna sell that Ampeg dude :heh: I guess mostly cuz no one's heard of it (at least I hadn't), but also, didn't you say there was something wrong with it?

eh...that's a long-ass story, right thurrr...basically i took the thing to get it fixed, the guy took forever fixing it, and i moved across the country with it still at his place

then i made a half-assed attempt at seeing if anyone wanted to buy it for cheap and pay the repair/shipping costs to get it from the tech, and like i thought, nobody bit on that one, so i just annoyed the shit out of the guy until he got it fixed and had it shipped to me.

now the thing works fine and all, but i have my rev jr. and want a 5150 and decent bass to go with, so i need to unload this bitch ASAP

I know and I love it!!!
There's a VL-502 for sale at a guitar center about 1hr and a half away. i saw it and was like HEY DUDE HOW MUCH IS THIS AMPEG???!!!
dude couldn't understand why i was so excited about it so i explained that i like to play thin lizzy riffz on my 100w version of the same amp.

i wanted to play it and crank that shit up, but there were some cockwashers dicking with a line6 spider nearby and i didn't want to attract them to my secret treasure. besides, they would have shat their pants cause this shit is loud.

Hahahahahaha, smart choice dude, it definitely is a sleeper!

you ever used a 414 marcus?

OMG one of the nicest mics ive ever used, i can just never afford one!!! however the 214 aint much cheaper than the standard 414 like whats been said bout buying a 414 used, so its an umming and ahhing situation. The mic is incredibly crisp, used it before on overheads, vocals and on acoustic guitar its amazing!! especially for the latter
